Position Overview The
Director of Laboratory Services
is responsible for the strategic, operational, and regulatory oversight of all hospital laboratory services. This leader ensures high-quality, timely, and cost-effective diagnostic services while maintaining full compliance with state and federal regulations.
Reporting into senior hospital leadership, this role provides comprehensive direction across laboratory disciplines, including clinical, technical, administrative, and fiscal functions. The Director ensures laboratory operations align with best practices, regulatory standards, and organizational goals while fostering a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Provide overall leadership and direction for all hospital laboratory services and departments
Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and accrediting body regulations, including Florida laboratory requirements
Oversee quality assurance, quality control, and continuous performance improvement initiatives
Direct staffing, scheduling, competency assessment, and professional development of laboratory personnel
Manage departmental budgets, cost controls, and resource utilization
Ensure accurate, timely, and efficient delivery of laboratory results to support patient care
Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, and hospital administration to support clinical operations
Maintain policies, procedures, and documentation in alignment with regulatory and organizational standards
Required Qualifications
Minimum of
five (5)
years of supervisory or management experience in an
acute care hospital laboratory
Education and/or experience combination recognized by the
State of Florida
for
Clinical Laboratory Supervisor
eligibility
Eligibility for
Florida Clinical Laboratory Supervisor licensure
in at least
three (3)
of the following disciplines:
Microbiology
Serology
Clinical Chemistry
Hematology
Immunohematology
Demonstrated leadership experience managing multidisciplinary laboratory teams
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or related field
ASCP National Certification (Medical Technologist or equivalent)
Experience leading laboratory operations in a fast-paced hospital environment
Leadership & Professional Skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams
Adaptability and resilience in a dynamic healthcare environment
Sound judgment, organizational skills, and attention to regulatory detail
