Catholic Diocese of Lansing
The Diocese of Lansing is accepting applications for a faith-based magazine editor. This is a 24-28 hours per week position, reporting to the Director of Communications.
Position Overview:
Faith Magazine is a Catholic, faith-based publication serving the Diocese of Lansing since 2000. The Faith Magazine Editor leads the curation, development, and presentation of compelling print and digital content that brings to life the beauty, goodness, and truth of the Catholic faith. This role advances the Church's mission in the diocese and reflects the Bishop's priorities of Catholic education, vocations, and growth in holiness.
Your time will be spent maintaining the official diocesan magazine's day-to-day operations, including generating story ideas, assigning writers and photographers to cover stories, content development, editing, proofreading, to ensure the timely delivery of a high-quality magazine to homes across the Diocese of Lansing. It is also expected that you will write 2-3 stories per edition of FAITH Magazine.
The Editor of FAITH Magazine will work collaboratively with the Director of Communications to advance the specific episcopal and apostolic priorities of the Diocese of Lansing through content creation.
Key Responsibilities:
Editorial Leadership
Work with the Director of Communications overseeing editorial vision, planning, and content strategy. Assign articles, conduct interviews, edit submissions, and manage production schedules for nine issues per year. Responsible for the recruitment and oversight of freelance writers and photographers, including their pay. Ensure content aligns with Catholic teaching, diocesan priorities, and the Bishop's pastoral vision. Content Development & Production
Direct the creation and distribution of high-quality print and digital content. Collaborate with the communications director and staff of other departments to generate ideas, assemble and publish content related to diocesan-wide initiatives, campaigns, events to the diocesan website and in the magazine and other platforms. Create and oversee magazine layouts in coordination with internal and external partners. Coordinate with the print house to ensure timely and accurate delivery of each issue. Project & Workflow Management
Establish and enforce deadlines to ensure projects progress efficiently from concept to completion. Edit and refine the work of others while maintaining consistent editorial standards and voice. Qualifications
Practicing Catholic of mature faith, knowledgeable of and living in accord with Church teaching. Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field. Minimum of five years of professional writing or journalism experience, or a comparable combination of education and experience. Exceptional written communication and editing skills. Proven ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external communications partners. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines. Ability to effectively present information, verbally and in writing, in one-on-one, small and large group situations with a diverse group of constituents including clergy and laity.
