Marbles Kids Museum is a vibrant, nonprofit children’s museum and IMAX Theatre located in the heart of downtown Raleigh. Marbles serves a diverse population of families, school groups, and community organizations through award-winning play-based exhibits, summer camps, IMAX documentaries, feature movies, and special events year-round.
The Opportunity: Are you passionate about informal education and creating hands-on learning experiences beyond the classroom? Marbles is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Community Engagement Host to lead engaging, play-based programming that inspires young learners to learn through play. In this role, you’ll bring learning to life into the community and on the museum floor by facilitating a wide variety of programs throughout the year, like Ready, Set, School, Learning Labs, and School\'s Out Camps. You’ll also support special Guest Stars as they share their talents with kids and families and more.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Facilitate offsite play-based learning experiences, including driving, setup, delivery, and breakdown.
Share information about Marbles’ play-based programs and services.
Support access programs (e.g., Ready Set School, Access Playdates) by assisting with setup, leading activities, welcoming guests, and ensuring an inclusive, positive experience.
Represent Marbles at community events by staffing informational tables, engaging attendees, answering questions, and distributing materials.
Provide exceptional, proactive customer service by initiating and engaging in interactions with museum guests.
Direct volunteers to ensure smooth and efficient program operations.
Support and serve as the main point of contact for guest stars throughout their appearance as needed.
Collect informal data, such as participant counts and surveys.
Communicate scheduling, equipment, and operational needs to your supervisor.
Perform all other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Ideal Experience and Skill Requirements
1 year of customer service experience, particularly with families and young children (preferred).
Demonstrated ability to lead informal educational programs for children in a museum, camp, or similar setting.
Museum, preschool, or equivalent experience is a plus.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Comfortable initiating conversations and approaching attendees in a friendly, welcoming manner.
Reliability and professionalism when representing the organization in the community.
Valid driver\'s license and clean driving record.
Physical Demands
Walking, standing, stooping, bending, and reaching.
Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment
Exposure to a noisy and crowded atmosphere.
Driving or being driven to programs.
May need to walk between two buildings with some outdoor exposure.
Schedule
Flexible schedule required, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Required: Thursdays 3:30PM-7:30PM and Saturdays (10-15 hrs/week).
Weekday summer availability preferred.
