Responsibilities
Conduct regular monitoring to determine accuracy of medical record coding/abstracting.
Maintain records of audits and share results with coders as a teaching mechanism.
Serve as coding resource within the department and provide coding information/advice to a team of coders.
Code diagnoses and procedures for all medical records according to ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 guidelines and hospital modifications.
Follow procedures mandated by government and other payers for completion of coded data.
Verify/abstract demographic, medical, and statistical information into the computer from patient records.
Orient/train employees in coding/abstracting diagnosis and procedures.
Utilize Epic electronic health record and 360 Encompass Encoder.
Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
3 years of outpatient coding experience with a minimum of 1 year experience in the specialty they oversee.
Certification:
CPC (Certified Professional Coder) required.
