Job Description Summary:
Roots of Change (ROC) is a "think and do" tank working to advance a resilient, healthy, and equitable food system in California and across the nation. ROC is launching Vote for Your Food, a national campaign that uses food as a bridge to connect rural and urban communities and build support for a healthier and more resilient food system.
The Campaign Outreach & Community Engagement Specialist will play a key role in designing and implementing outreach for the Vote for Your Food campaign and expanding ROC's engagement with key state and national allies. The role will help grow ROC's network in rural and urban communities and deepen relationships with stakeholders across farming, agriculture, environmental, food and social justice, and public health sectors. This role will manage our general social media channels, newsletters, podcast distribution, and work with allies to foster communication synergy to advance ROC's goals and objectives.
This is a regular full-time position that is expected to have a work schedule of 40 hours per week. This position is primarily remote, with the expectation to work during core business hours for the Pacific Time zone. This position is required to travel approximately 20% of the time mainly in California for in-person meetings, events, or other work activities. The incumbent must be located in California. Candidates based in the San Francisco Bay Area are strongly preferred.
Full salary range for this position: $65,962 to $94,454 per year. The hiring range for this position is from $65,962 to $77,548 based on 100% FTE. The starting salary is determined using factors such as knowledge, skills, and experience, as well as internal equity considerations and budget availability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Vote for Your Food Campaign & Partner Outreach
Support the identification and engagement of priority stakeholders and constituencies, including rural and urban communities, producers, advocates, and community-based organizations.
Research and map key allies, networks, and coalitions across farming, agriculture, environment, and public health sectors.
Develop and maintain bios, contact lists, and communication trackers for campaign allies, endorsers, and partners.
Help create and refine outreach materials (e.g., flyers, one-pagers, talking points, slide decks) tailored to different audiences.
Assist with promotion and logistics for ally meetings, webinars, and campaign events.
Provide consistent communication and follow-up support to campaign partners and coalition allies.
Maintain the ROC website to reflect all its current activities, impacts, staffing and events.
ROC Network-Building & Social Media Management
Co-design and implement social media strategy that includes the design and implementation of the Vote for Your Food campaign at the state and national levels.
Support ROC's broader strategy to expand engagement with key state and national partners beyond the Vote for Your Food campaign.
Help build and maintain ROC's network in rural and urban communities, including outreach to producers, advocates, community leaders, and institutions.
Manage and update ROC's established and Vote for Your Food social media channels (e.g. LinkedIn, Instagram, BlueSky, X/Twitter, and Facebook).
Draft and schedule posts and stories that highlight ROC's policy work, campaigns, partners, and community stories.
Use basic design tools (e.g. Canva) to create simple, on-brand social media graphics and visuals.
Track basic engagement metrics and share insights to refine content and outreach strategies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
2 years of experience in communications, community organizations, marketing, or related fields.
Bachelor's degree, or substitute with four additional years of related experience.
Other Qualifications
Experience working with or alongside farming, rural, agriculture, environmental, or public health stakeholders.
Comfortable working with diverse communities and stakeholders across rural and urban contexts.
Knowledge of food systems, sustainability, public policy, civic engagement, and/or democracy-focused work.
Experience with community organizing, campaign outreach, or coalition and partner engagement.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including drafting social media content.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Basic design, social media, and e-marketing experience (e.g., Canva, Constant Contact and other CRM tools, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, etc.)
Adept at using spreadsheets, online research, and other collaborative tools (e.g., Google Workspace).
Self-motivated and reliable, with the ability to work independently and as part of a small team, managing multiple projects and deadlines concurrently.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
FLSA Status This position is classified as exempt based on the job duties. However, based on the FTE, salary level of the employee, or federal/state/local laws, the employee may be classified as nonexempt.
