Rutland City Public Schools (RCPS) seeks a collaborative, organized, and student-focused Activities & Athletic Director to join our leadership team. The Activities & Athletic Director oversees Rutland City Public Schools activities for grades 3-12 and athletics for grades 7-12.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated abilities to lead activities and athletic programming while advancing the District’s strategic mission of serving Every Student, Every Day. This full‑time leadership position will collaborate with the District’s administrative team and work with various employees, students, and community stakeholders. The director will be expected to help cultivate a positive, professional, and inclusive environment with RCPS values and goals.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Supervise the interscholastic athletics program, including oversight of coaches, games, and schedules;
Supervise and support extracurricular activities and advisors;
Build and maintain systems for day‑to‑day operations and continued improvement of programming;
Ensure equitable and safe programming that ensures student growth;
Cultivate relationships with a variety of stakeholders in order to facilitate student and program success.
Support the superintendents and principals to achieve district goals and priorities in compliance with all strategies, programs, policies, and procedures;
Ensure compliance with Vermont Principals Association guidelines;
Communicate, collaborate, and cooperate with stakeholders, including colleagues, supervisors, students, parents, coaches, advisors, officials, and the broader community.
Preferred qualifications:
3 or more years of Activities and/or Athletic Director or similar leadership experience;
Undergraduate or master’s degree in sports management/leadership, athletic or educational leadership, physical education, or a related field;
5 or more years of head coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level;
Professional certification or willingness to work towards: Registered Athletic Administrator, Certified Athletic Administrator, or Certified Master Athletic Administrator.
Compensation : Salary range is $103,908 to $108,065 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
