The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an opening for a Senior Rackets Investigator in its Investigation Bureau. This sworn police officer position requires the candidate to meet all qualifications for certification as a police officer on the NYS DCJS Police registry, successfully complete New York State police academy training, and pass a mandatory background check. Candidates must have Special Victims experience.

Responsibilities

Conduct, manage, and update ongoing criminal investigative caseloads with a focus on Counterterrorism Debriefing and Intervention Team.

Investigate cyber‑crime and terrorism‑related activities.

Manage fieldwork, including surveillance, quality assurance checks, and undercover operations.

Review voluminous and complicated facts to ascertain their validity.

Prepare extensive narrative reports.

Execute search warrants that often lead to arrests.

Operate in an undercover capacity.

Collaborate with various law enforcement agencies and outside organizations.

Conduct surveillance to obtain and compile intelligence.

Manage and monitor complex and lengthy investigations.

Work with and oversee junior investigators when appropriate.

Contact and interview witnesses and subjects.

Testify at grand jury, criminal trials, and all other court proceedings.

Perform field visits to businesses, communities, and other contacts.

Gather information through collateral contacts, financial institutions, and other law enforcement agencies using City databases such as eJustice, IIS, IFCOM, Webcrims, and Google.

Work on special projects and tasks assigned by the Chief Investigator.

Be willing to work flexible hours.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or equivalent and three years of full‑time paid experience in police enforcement or investigative work, one of which must have been in rackets or police investigative work.

Equivalent education or experience that meets the above requirement.

Must possess a valid NYS driver’s license.

Must pass a medical exam, drug test, psychological screening, and an intensive background check.

U.S. citizenship required (NY Public Officers Law 2, 3‑B).

Firearms qualification required.

Valid certificate of completion from a New York State Basic Course for Police Officers academy or eligibility to attend and complete a Police Officer Refresher course.

A minimum of five years of experience in Special Victims.

Preferred Requirements / Skills

Bachelor's degree.

Prior law enforcement or criminal justice experience.

Experience in the investigation of domestic and international terrorism activities.

Experience liaising with state, federal, and international law enforcement organizations.

Experience working with victims and witnesses of domestic violence, hate crimes, and special victims’ cases.

Ability to conduct confidential and sensitive investigations.

Experience evaluating credit worthiness.

Proficiency in using wiretap equipment, GPS tracking devices, and surveillance recording devices.

Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.

Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workflow.

Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.

Dependable team player who works collaboratively in a team‑oriented environment.

Ability to perform under pressure in a fast‑paced environment, be self‑motivated, and multitask.

Ability to interact with all levels of staff and other law enforcement agencies.

Detective Squad, O.C.I.D., or Task Force Officer with one to two years of experience in investigative assignment.

Flexibility for domestic or overseas travel and a valid U.S. passport.

Hours / Shift Monday – Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Ability to work flexible hours.

Additional Information Current office employees: To be eligible for a transfer or promotion, staff must have served at least one year in their current position, be in good standing, and meet the minimum qualifications.
