— GISF (Grant Imahara STEAM Foundation) Los Angeles–based | Travel across California (occasional national travel) Contract or Part-Time | ~$50,000/year (inclusive of travel) The Grant Imahara STEAM Foundation is seeking a
highly skilled, story-driven content creator
to help us capture and share the magic of our programs in the real world from classrooms, libraries, science centers, and live robotics events. This role will work closely with our leadership team and is ideal for someone who can
find the human story, capture it beautifully, and deliver polished photo and video that feels cinematic, joyful, and authentic .

Founded in honor of beloved engineer and MythBusters host Grant Imahara, GISF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to creating

About RoboBattles
Our flagship program,
RoboBattles , is the world’s most accessible robotics experience. It blends
LEGO® robotics, storytelling, and real-time competition , allowing students to build and battle robots using game controllers in a live, playful environment. RoboBattles feels like a video game brought to life, and it works. Students build real engineering skills while discovering confidence, teamwork, and creative problem-solving. Programs run across California and beyond, in partnership with schools, libraries, universities, and community organizations.
What You’ll Do
Capture high-quality
photo and video content
at GISF programs and events (San Diego-based, travel required) Translate real moments into
short- and mid-form storytelling
for Instagram, LinkedIn, and related channels Own the full creative pipeline:
shoot → edit → polish → deliver → post Create content that feels
human, cinematic, and emotionally resonant , not staged or corporate Collaborate closely with GISF leadership to shape story arcs, campaigns, and narrative themes Help elevate and evolve GISF’s visual identity and content quality over time
What We’re Looking For
We care far more about
taste, storytelling ability, and execution
than titles or credentials. Must-haves: Strong
storytelling instincts
- you know how to find the moment that matters Excellent
cinematography skills
(framing, movement, lighting, sound) A refined eye for
photo and video editing
with a clean, modern finish A
genuine interest in STEM
( science communications
experience preferred) and a
technical mindset Comfort working in dynamic, real-world environments (kids, movement, live events) An eye for quality - most of our board comes from the entertainment and storytelling world, so standards can be high Nice-to-haves: Experience filming in classrooms, community spaces, or live events Familiarity with short-form social content that still feels intentional and elevated Interest in STEAM, education, robotics, or mission-driven work You’ll have support and creative partnership from our team, but this role requires someone who can
execute independently at a high level . This role requires someone who can
bridge technical substance and emotional storytelling , not just capture pretty moments.
Logistics & Compensation
Budget:
~$50,000/year total, inclusive of travel expenses Based in or near
Los Angeles strongly preferred Occasional travel across California; may include national travel Open to a
single multi-talented creator
(preferred), though flexible for exceptional skill sets Flexible structure (contract or part-time) with consistent work throughout the year
