UCSF Health invites applications for the Vice President – HR Strategic Initiatives and HR Business Partners role.
Job Summary Along with the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), this role is the chief integration point for all UCSF corporate strategy initiatives that impact the organization’s people and talent. In a period of rapid growth, the VP will strategically align organization‑wide growth initiatives to the employee experience and UCSF’s employee lifecycle.
Responsibilities
Partner with senior leadership to translate external consultants’ work products into actionable internal talent strategies.
Lead strategic plans for leadership development, organizational effectiveness, strategic planning, and all talent initiatives.
Make decisions on organizational consulting matters and ensure the achievement of objectives.
Manage and direct organization‑wide People Strategy programs and approve operational planning recommendations.
Lead the UCSF Leadership Development Initiative and Strategic Business Partner Program.
Identify functional objectives for the organization and determine the resources required to achieve them.
Define and operationalize the strategic plan for leadership and management development across UCSF Health and Campus.
Co‑design the broader People Strategy with the CHRO and HR leadership, ensuring integration across communication, PR, Leadership Development, and other stakeholders.
Oversee the HR Strategic Business Partner function to partner with top leaders in planning, developing, and executing effective talent solutions.
Employ an evidence‑based approach to identify workforce planning, labor optimization, and mid‑ to long‑term talent management opportunities.
Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on optimizing leadership effectiveness, team cohesiveness, and human capital decision‑making.
Collaborate closely with the Directors of Talent Acquisition, Compensation, Learning & Organizational Development, Labor, and Employee Relations.
Provide on‑site presence Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays; occasional extended office time as required.
Compensation & Location Salary range: $169,400‑$411,400 (Annual Rate). Salary placement within the range is based on experience and internal equity. Location: San Francisco, CA (Mission Bay & Parnassus Heights). Employment type: Full‑time, 8‑hour days, flexible work style.

Required Qualifications
10+ years of experience leading HR Business Partner teams or equivalent HR strategy leadership.
Advanced skills in strategy development, systems planning, and change management.
Proficiency in establishing metrics for departmental and employee goals to measure operational effectiveness.
Strong leadership abilities overseeing multiple functions or departments through subordinate managers; collaborative and persuasive, with conflict‑management skills.
Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, conveying complex technical information clearly.
Experience handling highly difficult or volatile situations effectively.
Advanced knowledge of organizational theory and consulting, with ability to translate theory into practice.
Advanced project‑management skills.
Customer‑service standard establishment and implementation experience.
Analytical experience studying large‑scale organizational problems to identify root causes.
Evidence‑based approach to talent solutions and workforce planning.
Management skills including coaching, development of subordinates, and relationship building.
Proven track record executing strategies to address identified problems.
Credibility with all leadership levels and ability to build trusting relationships.
Experience leading HR strategy in partnership with C‑suite/senior executives.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree preferred.
