Head Of Communications
Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, Verily's Head of Communications will be responsible for overseeing corporate, product, and internal communications. This individual will shape the strategy to grow Verily's reputation and build positive perception of Verily as a precision health company and its suite of solutions. This role is based in Verily headquarters, located in Dallas, TX.
Responsibilities:
- Evolve and champion a strategic corporate narrative that delivers on Verily's capabilities and solutions in the market.
- Oversee thought leadership strategy for media, partner, customer and investor and other key stakeholder audiences, evolving approach to stay closely aligned to the long term business strategy.
- Working closely with the CEO, partnering closely with government and corporate affairs on both Washington, DC and Texas-based outreach, relationship-building, and executive speaking opportunities.
- Lead executive communications, including executive presence and events, to ensure we're engaging in high-value, relevant forums to support visibility for our products and improve corporate reputation.
- Partner closely with the legal team to lead narrative around public policy, as part of overall corporate communications thought leadership.
- Develop communication plans to support company and product milestones and launches, partnering closely with marketing leaders, lead product managers and scientists/engineers for integrated planning.
- Drive a framework to measure internal and external communications effectiveness and engage the leadership team in internal communications strategy.
- Partner closely with People & Culture leadership to ensure integrated content and communications for internal audiences.
- Develop measurable, proactive media strategy plans and written materials -- including story pitches, messaging guidelines, press releases/blogs, Q&As and presentations -- and maintain thoughtful relationships with journalists.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Qualifications: BA/BS degree. 15+ years relevant experience in communications and PR. Experience in corporate, product and financial communications, issues management and crisis comms, within healthcare, biotech, life sciences, health tech, government relations or public affairs. Strong experience in strategic media relations creating and executing multi-tiered media campaigns. Proven team leader, motivating and mentoring teams to work collaboratively, grow their leadership, and innovate. Proven ability to counsel and coach executives, and influence and build relationships at all levels of the company as well as external partnerships. Excellent judgment, integrity, and transparency in leading a communications function for a company or for multiple clients.
- Preferred Qualifications: Ability to act as an evangelist and storyteller for Verily's vision as a company and for each core line of business. Savvy in modern communications and digital media to be a proactive storyteller for the Verily story. Solid understanding of scientific concepts and ability to translate technical language into layman's terms. Strong executive presence and comfort working with executive stakeholders to gather inputs, develop a point-of-view and action plan, secure cross-functional buy-in and drive execution. Experience delivering on both corporate and consumer PR strategies. Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent written and oral communication skills and attention to detail. Hands-on orientation: practical, pragmatic and collegial in a flat organization that requires strong peer relationships to deliver integrated solutions. Ability to assess and navigate FDA regulations, government organization guidelines, and proactive policy themes for communications.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $275,000 - $375,000 + bonus + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
