The AWS Global Events team delivers conferences, product launches, and virtual experiences connecting customers, partners, and developers. This role leads the technical vision and execution for high-impact events across in-person, livestream, and virtual formats.

The Senior Technical Director will own end-to-end technical direction, from audio, lighting, video, and equipment requirements to vendor management and production budgets. The role blends strategic leadership with hands-on execution and requires collaboration with internal stakeholders, oversight of technical teams and external partners, and the creation of standardized templates and technical grids to scale best practices globally across AWS events.

Key responsibilities

  • Technical Strategy & Vision — Define and scale global technical production standards for in-person, livestream, and virtual formats; develop standardized documentation, room configurations, and spatial layouts; evaluate new technologies; create technical drawings, mockups, and renders for event spaces.
  • Team Leadership & Vendor Management — Guide vendor technical directors to align with Amazon’s production standards; educate internal stakeholders on capabilities, feasibility, and cost; train vendor staff and venue partners on best practices; collaborate with accessibility teams to meet inclusive design standards.
  • Production Execution & Operations — Oversee end-to-end technical production; coordinate livestream and virtual production integration; provide on-site technical support and troubleshooting; deliver accurate cost estimates for equipment, labor, and setup timelines.
  • Standards & Performance — Establish and enforce best practices for pre-production, on-site, and post-production; track metrics and budgets; refine processes based on learnings and evolving needs; travel frequently and work across time zones.

Qualifications

  • Basic — 7+ years of experience in technical event production, including work as a technical director for large-scale live and virtual events; experience managing multiple projects toward aggressive deadlines; experience in entertainment-specific campus operations and facilities management; experience managing external vendors and developing technical scopes of work; proficiency with design/modeling software (Vectorworks, AutoCAD, Rhino, Revit, SolidWorks, CREO, SketchUp, KeyShot, etc.).
  • Preferred — Experience with livestream/virtual event technical integration; familiarity with AWS products and customer base; proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite; experience producing events at convention centers, arenas, and non-traditional venues; background in training technical teams and producing standardized documentation.
