About Flying V

Flying V is a nerd and pop culture performing arts organization located in Montgomery County, Maryland. We create intersectional, niche-based art to provide spaces of belonging to artists and audiences. We share and interpret modern mythologies that affirm individuals’ unique identities and their relationship to the world. Our work and how we create it is rooted in care for, and accountability, to those same individuals. Our work spans pro-wrestling, podcasts, burlesque, live action roleplay, traditional and experimental theater, and immersive experiences. Flying V works under a shared leadership model composed of two Artistic Leads and an Administrative Lead. This model is a non-hierarchical framework that decentralizes power and emphasizes equity, Voice dynamics, and horizontal decision making. .

HEY! That’s not a living wage!

$41,600 is not enough money for a full-time position for many people (especially in the DMV). That's a material reality and we’re naming this upfront. This role is designed for someone for whom this salary works right now. Maybe because they have other income (yes, freelancers!), fewer financial obligations, a partner or support system, or because things like extreme work flexibility, shared leadership, gaining hands-on nonprofit experience, or mission alignment are something they can afford to value over maximizing pay. It might be a good fit for someone coming off freelancing full-time who wants more stability while still making weird art, or someone finished with internships and ready for a “real job,” or anyone curious about the DMV indie theater scene at the nuts-and-bolts level. We are not asking anyone to pretend otherwise, nor do we expect perfection, total expertise, or unlimited availability. We do not expect anyone to absorb structural problems through personal sacrifice. We fully recognize the concessions being made, and also recognize that part of this role is working with the Board to continue building infrastructure, fundraising strength, and capacity that would allow for higher compensation in the future (for everyone at Flying V). For those who want more financial transparency and context, here is a copy of our 2025 operating budget for reference.

With apologies and deep love to Nothing for the Group.
