Overview Job Title: Assistant Director of Maintenance

Reports to: Director of Maintenance

Position Type: 100% Onsite, Full Time, Salary, Exempt

Summary:

As the Assistant Director of Maintenance, you will assist with overseeing the maintenance operations of our aircraft fleet and customer aircraft, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and maintaining the highest levels of safety and reliability. You will be responsible for developing and mentoring a team of skilled mechanics and apprentice mechanics. Your role involves ensuring safe and efficient maintenance operations, collaborating with other company departments, and delivering exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities

Assist the Director of Aircraft Maintenance in managing and overseeing all aspects of aircraft maintenance operations.

Develop and implement maintenance programs and schedules to ensure the timely and efficient servicing of the aircraft fleet.

Monitor and enforce compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies.

Provide leadership and guidance to maintenance staff, ensuring proper training, certification, and performance standards are met.

Collaborate with other departments, including flight operations, flight school, and aircraft management, to optimize aircraft maintenance processes and procedures.

Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including inspections, repairs, and modifications, in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.

Assist with managing aircraft maintenance budgets, forecast expenses, and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or quality.

Coordinate with external maintenance vendors and service providers to ensure timely and cost-effective maintenance services.

Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess the effectiveness of maintenance programs and identify areas for improvement.

Stay informed about advancements in aircraft technology, maintenance practices, and regulatory requirements, and implement best practices as appropriate.

Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding maintenance staff.

Qualifications

A&P I/A certification

Bachelor's degree in aviation maintenance management, aeronautical engineering, or related field or equivalent experience. Advanced degree or relevant certifications preferred.

Minimum of 7 years of experience in aircraft maintenance, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.

Extensive knowledge of aircraft systems, components, and maintenance practices for various types of aircraft.

Strong understanding of aviation regulations, including FAA/EASA requirements and industry standards.

Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.

Exceptional organizational and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail.

Proficiency in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other relevant software applications.

Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Additional Requirements

Maintain A&P I/A certification through continuing education and recurrent training.

Be available for on-call and after-hours maintenance needs.

Pass a background check and a pre-employment drug test.

Comply with company and FAA alcohol & drug policies.

Maintain a valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements

Ability to work in office, hangar, ramp, and outdoor environments

Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods

Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and aircraft maintenance platforms

Ability to enter and work in confined spaces, including aircraft compartments

Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and reach overhead as required

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally (as operationally required)

Ability to hear and communicate effectively in noisy environments (hangars, flight line)

Ability to use hands and fingers for handling tools, documents, and computer equipment

Ability to visually inspect aircraft, components, & documentation, including close & distance vision
