Position Summary The

Mechanical Designer

applies engineering and design principles to support the development, documentation, and continuous improvement of motors and generators. This role focuses on creating and maintaining bills of materials, drawings, and specifications while partnering closely with engineering, manufacturing, and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality products efficiently and cost-effectively.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Mechanical Design or related field required

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline preferred for more experienced candidates

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Technical aptitude with an understanding of manufacturing processes

Proficiency with ERP systems, 3D modeling/CAD software, Microsoft Office, and other project-based software tools

Ability to communicate effectively across departments and levels of the organization

Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and quality

Solid problem-solving and analytical skills

Willingness and ability to learn new processes and adapt to changing work situations

Dependable, team-oriented, and quality-focused

Responsibilities

Create, revise, and maintain engineering documentation including bills of materials, routers, submittals, detailed drawings, revisions, and installation instructions

Support manufacturing by resolving issues related to drawings, materials, and manufacturing methods

Collaborate with design engineering, marketing, manufacturing, and purchasing teams to support quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction

Follow and help maintain standard processes, procedures, and engineering documentation practices

Participate in special projects and cross-functional initiatives as needed

Adapt to changing priorities, schedules, and deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

Communicate technical ideas clearly and logically, both verbally and in writing

Analyze information methodically to support effective problem-solving and decision-making

Evaluate multiple solutions and work through obstacles efficiently

Work independently while also contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment

Support Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen events, and continuous improvement activities

Perform other duties as assigned

Role Leveling & Career Progression This position may be filled at different levels based on the candidate’s education, experience, and demonstrated capabilities.

Entry-Level Candidates (typically Associate’s degree or early career): Focus on learning core design standards, documentation practices, and manufacturing processes. Responsibilities will emphasize supporting existing designs, creating and revising drawings and bills of materials, and collaborating with experienced designers and engineers while developing technical and problem-solving skills.

Experienced Candidates (typically Bachelor’s degree and/or relevant industry experience): Take on broader responsibility for independent design work, complex documentation, and cross-functional problem-solving. Expected to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, support more complex projects, and mentor less experienced team members as appropriate.

Advancement within the role is based on demonstrated performance, technical proficiency, collaboration, and business impact—not solely tenure or degree level.
