Job Description Position Summary

The Technical Trainer at Deriva Energy is responsible for independently delivering complete technical training modules for wind, solar, and battery energy systems across the United States. This role focuses on hands-on instruction, classroom facilitation, trainee assessment, and field readiness to ensure technicians develop the skills and knowledge required to safely install, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot renewable energy assets.

The Technical Trainer works closely with Operations, Safety, and Training teams to execute established curriculum, contribute to continuous improvement efforts, and support compliance with Global Wind Organization (GWO) standards. This role is ideal for a technically skilled trainer who excels in adult learning environments and can confidently manage training delivery from start to finish.

This role is based at our Training Facility located at 8809 Lenox Pointe Dr, Charlotte, NC 28273.

Key Responsibilities

Independently deliver complete classroom, laboratory, and field-based training modules for wind, solar, and battery systems

Facilitate hands-on instruction covering installation, maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and troubleshooting activities

Apply adult learning principles to engage diverse learner groups and adapt delivery methods to trainee needs and experience levels

Assess, evaluate, and document trainee performance using practical evaluations, written assessments, and observational feedback

Accurately record training completion, assessments, and certifications within the Learning Management System (LMS)

Upload, manage, and maintain Instructor-Led Training (ILT) and Computer-Based Training (CBT) courses within the LMS

Support GWO training delivery, including adherence to standards, documentation, and audit-ready recordkeeping

Collaborate with curriculum and instructional design teams to provide feedback and recommend updates to training content

Communicate effectively with trainees, peers, and operations leadership regarding training outcomes and readiness

Maintain compliance with safety, regulatory, and company training requirements

Meet and maintain qualifications required to serve as a GWO Certified Trainer across applicable modules

Core Competencies

Strong technical expertise in wind, solar, and battery energy systems

Effective adult learning facilitation and classroom management skills

Ability to conduct structured trainee assessments and performance evaluations

Clear written and verbal communication with adaptability to varying learner needs

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Intermediate LMS administration skills, including uploading and managing ILT and CBT courses

Foundational instructional design skills, including assessment support and content refinement

Ability to achieve and maintain GWO Certified Trainer status

Basic Qualifications

Associate's degree in Engineering, Technical Education, or a related field

Three (3) or more years of Wind/Solar/Battery technician experience

In lieu of an associate's degree, six (6) years of relative experience that include: technical field experience with delivering training in the Wind/Solar/Battery industry

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Organizational Development, or a related field or equivalent technical field experience

Four (4) or more years of Wind/Solar/Battery technician experience

Five (5) or more years of experience delivering technical training, ideally in renewable energy or industrial operations

Experience coaching or mentoring trainers, technicians, or technical teams

Experience interacting with leadership and external stakeholders, including customers and vendors

Deep understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design, and technical curriculum development

Proven ability to develop structured training pipelines from onboarding through proficiency

Strong analytical skills, including the ability to assess trainee performance and recommend program improvements

Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and learning management systems

Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment with flexibility to travel as needed

Certifications in Training & Development, Instructional Design, or Safety Management preferred

Demonstrated experience facilitating training independently in classroom and practical settings

Experience delivering training in wind, solar, and/or battery storage operations

Familiarity with GWO standards, safety training, and regulatory compliance

Experience assessing technician competency and documenting training outcomes

Exposure to instructional design or curriculum development collaboration

Effective adult learning facilitation and classroom management skills

Ability to conduct structured trainee assessments and performance evaluations

Clear written and verbal communication with adaptability to varying learner needs

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
