This classification involves specialized work in planning, organizing, and conducting a variety of recreational activities at City playgrounds, recreation centers, parks, and related facilities. An employee in this position assists in promoting, organizing, preparing, and leading indoor and outdoor recreation facilities; conducts activities with assigned groups within the general recreation program; oversees cultural arts contracted classes; manages theater shows, art gallery openings, and events; makes sure playground equipment is safe; oversees youth programs; plans trips and excursions; recruits instructors for classes; recruits volunteers; and purchases supplies. This position also assists with front desk, interacts with patrons, and renders first aid as needed. Examples of Duties

Essential Job Functions Organizes, teaches, and leads various age groups in organized recreation activities such as team games and sports, arts and crafts, camping and nature lore, folk dancing, community singing, and informal storytelling. Acts as house manager for theater performances; manages and books rentals of theaters and amphitheaters as needed; and assists with box office. Manages contracts for cultural arts classes; hosts and assists with art gallery openings. Promotes programs via regular media and social media. Plans trips and excursions for seniors including research and pricing. Makes sure play equipment and playgrounds are in readiness; encourages good sportsmanship on the part of players and spectators alike; and reports concerning games, giving such data as names of players, scores, forfeits, violations, and protests. Issues and collects playground equipment such as balls, bats, and horseshoes. Maintains discipline on indoor and outdoor play areas; assists in organizing such games as football, basketball, croquet, and ping pong; and maintains safety of participants and spectators. Teaches Startsmart sport classes. Renders first aid in cases of minor injuries. Performs and coordinates minor maintenance work and grounds keeping duties in order to prevent equipment malfunctions and to provide a clean, safe, and orderly facility appearance; does minor repair work on recreational equipment. Coordinates recreation activities at small facilities. Assists in planning recreation programs as assigned; schedules league games; and meets with community members to discuss recreation needs. Records facility and worker activities on standardized report forms and files. Assists in the enforcement of recreation center rules and regulations in order to maintain order and prevent accidents. Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering phones; preparing correspondence; running errands; picking up supplies needed for activities/programs; leading recreation activities and programs; making arrangements for rental and use of recreation facilities; reviewing incident/accident reports related to specific areas of responsibility; helping set up tables/chairs for classes, etc.; and responding to and resolving complaints from program participants/patrons. Helps with development of the Sunrise Leadership Academy (SLA); assists with Animal Festival. Recruits instructors and volunteers; runs fingerprint and background checks as needed. Schedules and supervises staff. Works evenings, weekends, and/or holidays to accommodate recreation programs as needed. Performs related work as required. Qualifications

Education Graduation from an accredited high school, preferably supplemented by college level coursework in recreation, education or physical education PROOF OF THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF COMPLETED EDUCATION MUST BE SUBMITTED AS AN ATTACHMENT WITH APPLICATION. Experience and Training Basic work experience in planning, organizing, and conducting a variety of recreational programs for a variety of age groups, preferably with supervisory experience. Experience working with target program area is preferred (i.e. athletics) Bilingual (Spanish speaking) is preferred Necessary Special Qualifications Possession of valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Must obtain a valid state of Florida driver’s license prior to hire. Physical Light to moderate physical effort required, which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials up to thirty (30) pounds. The position requires the ability to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time. Incumbent must have the ability to effectively and safely operate City-issued motor vehicles. Work Environment Work is performed in various environments including standard office, recreational facilities, and outdoors. Work hours may vary as needed and may include evenings, weekends and holidays. Tasks are regularly performed with moderate exposure to adverse environmental conditions including inclement weather, severe temperatures and exposure to water. The position may require travel to various locations in the City of Sunrise area. Sensory The ability to perceive and differentiate visual cues or signals. Tasks require the ability to communicate orally and in writing. Requires ability to adapt to frequent changes in workload and to adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate while completing tasks within established time frames. It also requires interaction with employees and officials from all City departments/divisions, vendors and the general public. Benefits Package Summary

General Employee Benefits (hired on or after 10/01/23) City-Paid Medical Benefits: The City pays for 100% of the cost for single coverage for full-time employees and 66.66% of cost for Dependent/Family Coverage. Upon retirement and separation from City employment, employee receives a monthly stipend of $350 per month, applicable toward retiree health coverage. Life Insurance: $30,000 AD&D: $10,000 Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through Cigna Behavioral Health Retirement Employee Contribution = 8% Vesting = 10 Years Normal Retirement Benefit = 2.5% of pensionable earnings for each year of creditable service Average Final Compensation (AFC) = 3 best consecutive earning years Maximum Benefit = 80% of AFC, not to exceed $80,000 Normal Retirement = Age 62 and ten (10) years of creditable service Early Retirement = Age 57 and ten (10) years of creditable service, 3% annual reduction for each year prior to normal retirement age 13th check based on monthly retirement, payable if the pension plan funding status is equal to or greater than 100%. Paid in December each year following retirement Deferred Retirement Option Plan (DROP) = 4 years/48 months maximum DROP Interest Rate = 4%, compounded annually Longevity Based on successful completion of full-time, continuous service with the City, employee shall receive the following: 10 Years: 2.5% 15 Years: 2.5% 20 Years: 5.0% Paid Holidays New Year’s Day Martin Luther King Day Memorial Day Juneteenth 4th of July, Independence Day Labor Day Veterans’ Day Thanksgiving Day Friday after Thanksgiving Christmas Day Annual Leave Annual leave may be taken as earned after completion of 90 calendar days. Maximum accumulation each fiscal year is 290 hours. At time of resignation or retirement, employee is paid for all annual leave accrued at their current rate of pay. Annual leave is accrued based on continuous, full-time service with the City, as follows: Up to and including first 60 months: 96 hours/12 Days Greater than 60 months through 120 months: 136 hours/17 Days Greater than 120 months through 204 months: 176 hours/22 Days Greater than 204 months: 216 hours/27 Days Annual Leave Cash Out Employee can opt to receive a non-pensionable cash payment twice per year for up to forty (40) hours of annual leave, provided accrued annual leave bank does not fall below eighty (80) hours. Floating Holidays Upon completion of 26 weeks of full-time employment with the City, employee shall be entitled to utilize up to five (5) floating holidays per fiscal year. Floating holidays shall not carry over to the next fiscal year. Perfect Attendance For every six (6) months period with no sick or unpaid leave utilized, an employee shall receive ten (10) hours of annual leave credited; consecutive earning periods may qualify for additional hours. Sick Leave Each employee earns 96 hours (12 days) of sick leave annually with no waiting period for use and unlimited accrual. Details on separation include payout conditions. Sick Leave Conversion After one year of continuous, full-time employment, unused portion of the first six (6) days (maximum 48 hours) of accrued sick leave may be converted into annual leave, subject to limits.
