Teacher, Academy Band & Strings Music Director (FLA) Forest Lake Academy in Apopka, FL Southern Union Conference | Florida Conference

Forest Lake Academy (FLA) is one of the largest Adventist high schools in the North American Division and is located in Apopka, Florida, just eight miles north of Orlando. The school offers grades 9-12 to nearly 400 students and is on the same property as Forest Lake Education Center, a pre‑k‑8th grade school with about 670 students. Numerous AdventHealth Hospitals and the Adventist Health System headquarters as well as all of the attractions in Orlando (Disney, Universal, SeaWorld, etc.) and the beaches are only a short distance away from FLA. By this fall, the school will have just completed an extensive expansion project that is creating a renewed energy and excitement on campus with the new facilities.

FLA is seeking a full-time Band and Strings Music Director for the 2026-2027 school year. The school is looking for an energetic, dedicated, and inspirational music teacher who fosters and maintains an excellent music program, while engaging students and helping them develop a personal relationship with Jesus. FLA’s music program is a hallmark of the school, which is robust and active in the community and local churches. The music department includes two full-time directors and numerous music groups, including:

Concert Band: 54 students

Strings: 27 students

The ideal candidate will be passionate about young people and possess strong musical knowledge, performance ability, and pedagogical skills, with the ability to motivate students to bring the best out of them.

Required Experience Applicant must be a tithe-paying Seventh-day Adventist church member in good standing and have the legal right to work in the United States, providing evidence if employed. A minimum of a bachelor's degree with North American Division (Denominational) Teacher Certification in music is required and must be maintained (or must agree to work towards obtaining NAD Certification). A master's degree in music education and/or instrumental conducting and successful experience teaching high school band and string ensembles is preferred. Applicant must be able to manage a large rehearsal room and effectively supervise and engage students, as well as have the knowledge of varied learning styles and the skill to analyze and evaluate student progress.
