Join us to grow your career, develop your skills, and make a lasting impact as we transform how the world is built.Discover how Consertus is driving transformative change for our clients, our people, and the communities we serve at **About this Role:**Consertus has an exciting opportunity in Los Angeles, CA, for an experienced **Design Manager** supporting **Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Facilities Services Division – Asset Management.**The Design Manager plans, organizes, and directs design activities for LAUSD’s School Upgrade Program and critical repair projects, serving as a lead design professional and ensuring that project designs meet District standards, functional program needs, budgets, environmental requirements, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements. The role includes close coordination with design consultants, District stakeholders, and the Division of the State Architect (DSA) from project conception through design approvals and handoff to execution.**Key Responsibilities:*** Plan, organize, and direct design activities for the School Upgrade Program and critical repair projects.* Serve as the lead design professional providing quality review, implementing policies/procedures, and coordinating with the Division of the State Architect (DSA).* Manage, develop, and coordinate LAUSD’s design process to ensure plans meet functional program, budgetary, environmental, legal, and other requirements.* Manage multiple projects through interaction with architects, consultants, and District personnel from project conception through draft and final review, approval, and handoff to Project Execution.* Oversee the building design process to ensure compliance with LAUSD standards and guidelines, and that new/modernized structures meet educational and building standards requirements.* Establish and follow a process to identify/select the architectural firm best suited for each project based on qualifications and ability to meet performance standards.* Provide architects with clear and consistent direction regarding goals/objectives, standards, site constraints, schedule, and budget for each project.* Establish and follow an efficient design review process to ensure designs meet project objectives, provide maximum value for budgeted dollars, and are appropriate/enduring for the District, community, and environment.* Ensure decisions are made in a timely manner.* Ensure all project steps are documented and that documentation meets legal requirements.* Review design changes to ensure the project remains within budget.* Recommend architectural firm assignments from an established list of pre-qualified architectural firms.* Participate in community relations and outreach programs to build understanding and acceptance of District building project designs within the community.* Coordinate with professional staff supporting the design function and across District departments/branches including (as applicable): Environmental Health & Safety, A/E Design Services, Maintenance & Operations, School Occupancy Transitional Unit, Asbestos Technical Unit, and Local Districts.* Develop continuing education opportunities (seminars/workshops) to share up-to-date information on working with architects and contractors.* Perform other duties as assigned.***Minimum Qualifications*****Required Experience*** Minimum 10 years full-time paid professional experience managing facilities design, or planning and coordinating capital projects, including overall design, contract administration, cost estimating, and scheduling activities.* At least 5 years of the required experience must include the design, planning, and construction of educational facilities or work for similar public agencies.**Required Education*** Graduation from a recognized college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Engineering.***Preferred Qualifications**** Valid California Architect License (Certificate of Registration as an Architect by the California State Architectural Board) or valid California Professional Engineer (PE) license (State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors).**Working Hours & Location:** Full-time, exempt role with standard business hours.
