Job Description
NBC Chicago is looking for an Investigative Producer who’s creative, collaborative, and results-driven to join our award-winning News department.
Responsibilities include:
Research, write, produce, and edit investigative content for the NBC/Telemundo duopoly and all digital platforms, including stories, long-form pieces, and teases as assigned by producers, platform managers, and investigative reporters
Develop and maintain a network of sources and experts to generate enterprise investigative stories on a daily and long-term basis
Monitor and evaluate incoming tips; identify investigative leads, patterns, and accountability story opportunities
Conduct in-depth background research, analyze records, and synthesize complex information into strong story pitches
Lead and support investigations that may require data analysis, undercover reporting, surveillance, or public records work
Serve as a primary liaison with NBC’s national investigative units as needed
File, track, and manage public records requests (FOIA, state/local open records laws)
Collaborate with digital teams to develop complementary digital video, interactive elements, podcasts, and other multiplatform investigative content
Provide editorial guidance; conduct interviews; coordinate field production and logistics for investigative shoots
Uphold investigative standards and journalistic ethics while ensuring accuracy, fairness, and legal compliance
Qualifications: Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in related field
Relevant experience in television news production
Must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays, when necessary
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:
Minimum 3 years of experience in consumer investigative newsgathering and/or production
Experience with news photojournalism and non-linear editing preferred
Field producing experience
Fluent in English and Spanish is a plus
Experience partnering with legal and working knowledge of federal, state and local laws impacting operations as they relate to investigations, undercover content and hidden cameras
Ability to write, edit and produce under heavy deadline pressure without compromising accuracy or credibility
Ability to field produce and conduct interviews
Basic understanding and demonstration of creativity, editorial judgment, journalistic ethics and libel laws
Strong computer research skills, and working knowledge of analyzing data
Knowledge of undercover investigation techniques
Understanding of Social Media (Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok etc.)
Understanding of emerging news production techniques and technology, with a pioneering spirit with desire to learn emerging technologies and invent the future
Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels

Salary Range:
$75,000-$115,000
