Senior Sales Engineer Spyglass Talent Solutions, a boutique talent solutions firm based in Raleigh, NC, is partnering with Systems Contractors to find a Senior Sales Engineer. Systems Contractors is a Greensboro-based commercial mechanical contractor specializing in HVAC and mechanical construction, known for its technical expertise, strong customer relationships, and collaborative culture. The Senior Sales Engineer is a senior, client‑facing role responsible for leading business development and preconstruction efforts, developing competitive estimates and proposals for commercial and industrial mechanical construction projects, and partnering with clients and internal teams to win and deliver work. The position is based at the Greensboro headquarters.

Key Responsibilities

Lead business development and preconstruction efforts for commercial and industrial mechanical construction projects.

Develop preliminary and definitive detailed estimates and proposals for labor, materials, and equipment associated with mechanical construction projects, including hydronic/weld piping and sheet metal.

Manage the full pursuit lifecycle – from opportunity identification and initial client conversations through final proposal submission and handoff.

Build, maintain, and grow long‑term relationships with clients, owners, developers, architects, and general contractors, positioning Systems Contractors as a preferred partner.

Act as a technical and commercial advisor during early project planning, helping clients shape scope, budgets, and system approaches.

Participate in pre‑bid meetings, site visits, and walkthroughs to assess risk, constructability, and project requirements.

Collaborate closely with internal engineering and project management teams to ensure accurate scope alignment and smooth transition from sale to execution.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience.

5+ years of experience in estimating, preconstruction, sales engineering, or business development within commercial or industrial mechanical construction.

Demonstrated ability to develop complete estimates for plan/spec and design‑build HVAC and mechanical projects, including plumbing, hydronic piping, and sheet metal.

Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems such as rooftop units, air handlers, chillers, boilers, heat pumps, control systems, piping, and ductwork.

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
