DESCRIPTION Opera Colorado is seeking an emerging Opera Stage Director to join the organization’s Artist in Residence Program during the 2026-27 Season. The ideal candidate will bring a solid background and experience in opera production. The candidate will also have experience as an assistant director in an opera or theatre company as well as training and experience in stage direction. Knowledge and background in movement, dance, fight choreography, language, diction, and other fields pertaining to opera performance and production will be considered.

SCOPE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Acting as Assistant Stage Director for the Mainstage Productions

Direct other Artist in Residence performances as assigned.

Lead acting workshops and individual coachings for Artist in Residence Singers.

Receive mentorship and training from Opera Colorado staff and mainstage creative and production team members.

SCHEDULE The Artist in Residence Stage Director will be in residence in Colorado from August 31, 2026 – May 15, 2027.

COMPENSATION This is an AGMA covered position, and as such, the following terms and conditions of this role are subject to Opera Colorado’s final agreement with AGMA, which are currently being negotiated.

Assistant Director rates for all mainstage production assignments.

Outside of Mainstage weeks, weekly salary of no less than $600.

For an individual joining us from outside of the Denver Metro Area:

Housing is provided

Travel reimbursement for travel to/from Denver will be provided. Local transportation is the responsibility of the artist.

BENEFITS

Pay Range: $19 - $22 Hourly
