Position Residence Life and Student Involvement Coordinator

is a vital part of the team in helping to further the vision and mission of the department. They are responsible to the Associate Director of Student Life for assisting in operating and administering the Residence Life program as well as providing services and opportunities promoting student involvement and community engagement on a campus-wide level. The ability to balance both aspects of the role (residence life and campus student involvement) will be crucial to the coordinator’s success.

Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Residence Life

Assists with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a residential curriculum within the residence hall

Aids in the development and implementation of goals for the area and the residence hall

Interprets and enforces university and residence hall policies and procedures

Supports efforts in the supervision, recruitment, training, and evaluation of Resident Assistants

Supports residence hall staff in developing and promoting a positive living environment

Encourages student involvement in residential and University engagement opportunities

Advises individual students with academic, career, and personal concerns

Mediates conflicts between and among students

Makes referrals to university agencies when appropriate

Advocates for students by communicating their concerns and issues to the appropriate agency

Assists with the daily operation and organization of the residence hall and its office

Assists in promoting the safety and security of hall residents

Provides on-call coverage on a rotating basis (including over breaks as necessary)

Assists in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with Housing and Food Services, Safety and Security, New Student Programs, etc.

Student Involvement

Oversee all aspects of recognized student organization (RSO) management, including annual organization registration and the new student organization process, providing student organization training, implementing and enforcing RSO policies and procedures, and providing RSO leaders with consultation on their operations

Develops and maintains an RSO manual outlining all policies and procedures for student groups

Recruits, hires, and trains the leadership of the Campus Activities Board and oversees the group in their planning of campus programming

Plans, implements, and assesses campus cocurricular programs and activities that meet the needs of a diverse student population

Chaperones opportunities for off-campus activities and initiatives as needed

Oversees publicity and promotion of campus cocurricular programs

Manages and tracks an annual programming budget

Collaborates with campus partners for co-sponsored programming efforts

Manages the campus Fitness and Cultural Center, including the hiring and supervision of student staff, creating staffing schedules, and ensuring that equipment is maintained

Manages and promotes the use of Penn State’s “Discover” involvement platform (Campus Labs’ Engage)

General/Miscellaneous

Participate in committees and task force groups

Assists in the recruitment and training of staff

Performs other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

Master’s degree or higher in Student Personnel/Counseling or related area preferred

Should possess a thorough understanding of the role and purpose of residence hall living as it applies to student development and campus activities programming

Strong interpersonal skills

Demonstrated follow-through, initiative, high-energy, and attention to detail

Minimum Education, Work Experience & Required Certifications If filled as Residential Education Specialist - Intermediate Professional, this position requires: Master’s Degree; No prior relevant work experience required; Required Certifications: None

If filled as Residential Education Specialist - Professional, this position requires: Bachelor's Degree; No prior relevant work experience required; Required Certifications: None

Background Checks/Clearances This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

Salary & Benefits The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $42,100.00 - $67,300.00.
