As the Public Relations Manager for the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences, you will work with the Assistant Dean for Communications and External Relations in day-to-day operations and carrying out strategic campaigns for the college and its nine academic departments and various centers and programs. You’ll promote the college by managing content production, publishing, and reporting for a variety of communications channels, including website, social media, email, print materials, advertising, and experiences. Your excellent judgment and discretion will allow you to effectively communicate with and build relationships with internal and external audiences, all of which are key to the success of the college’s reputation and mission. Facilitate the development and publishing of strategic campaigns for the College, including using the project management system to manage workflow and processes for the consistent production of content Manage creation of Story Packages that adjust content for a variety of media that can be published across multiple channels (websites, news articles, social media, emails, print, display) and targeted to a variety of audiences (students, faculty, staff, administration, alumni) Gather data and create monthly dashboards and semester reports for the Communications & External Relations team, and assist with monthly council meetings for Alumni Relations & Communications councils Manage a team of student employees as they engage in experiential learning right on campus. Recruit, hire, onboard, train, approve timecards, set work schedules, provide end-of-semester evaluations and raise recommendations Provide an inspiring learning opportunity for student employees, including developing learning outcomes, making assignments that provide opportunities for growth, and providing timely feedback and direction Work with the Assistant Dean on the strategy, planning, and development of college messaging and key campaigns for both internal and external audiences Develop and maintain best practices for the college and its units and collaborate with departments and centers to support development and execution of their communications and external relations goals Manage accounts for public relations and marketing tools and maintain needed supplies Required
A firm commitment to the mission of BYU Bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing, communications, or related field Two years of work experience in public relations, marketing, or communications function PR or journalism writing and editing experience; knowledge of AP style Writing experience for multiple media (articles, web copy, social media, email, video scripts, etc.) Well-developed organizational, communication, writing, and editing skills Project management skills, with ability to forecast, assign projects, create deadlines, and follow up Ability to work well with others and feel comfortable speaking in front of a group Excellent time management History of meeting deadlines Proficiency in business software (Word, Outlook, Excel, Box, Acrobat) Ability to build relationships with people at all levels of an organization Experience visualizing and interpreting data Preferred
Equivalent of four years full-time related work experience Experience in higher education or non-profit sectors Experience and/or familiarity with BYU systems and processes Experience managing content creation and creative teams Supervisory experience Familiarity with web publishing Experience with project management systems such as ClickUp or Trello Knowledge of email programs such as MailChimp or Marketing Cloud Experience with design programs, specifically Adobe Creative Cloud products What We Offer In Return
