Assistant Store Director – Job Description Purpose The Assistant Store Director exemplifies and promotes strong customer service across all areas of the store. This role supports total store operations, drives sales and profit objectives, and ensures all activities align with company policies and federal, state, and local laws. The position is designed for individuals preparing to advance into a future Store Director role. Duties and Responsibilities Maintain an enthusiastic, customer‑focused environment with an emphasis on fast, friendly service. Assist the Store Director with managing the Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) and resolving customer concerns. Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via phone, intercom announcements, and direct customer interaction. Respond to incoming calls professionally and resolve customer complaints. Support the Store Director in closing the loop on customer and employee relations issues. Store Operations Assist with total store operations, including implementing Company and Division merchandising, operational, and sales initiatives. Help drive sales, achieve gross profit goals, and manage expenses. Support daily operational planning and monitor production processes for compliance and profitability. Communicate with Operations Specialists to execute promotions and division programs. Communicate company goals, policies, and procedures to department managers and employees, ensuring compliance across all departments. Participate in weekly meetings with department managers to review ads, sales plans, and promotions. Ensure alternate leadership coverage when needed. Safety, Sanitation & Compliance Ensure company safety and health initiatives are implemented and followed. Maintain integrity in food safety and sanitation practices across all departments. Ensure employee compliance with Food Safety and Sanitation, HIPAA, COBC, Meat Grinding and Tracking Logs, Texas Workplace Benefits Plan, Food Handler requirements, and other company/state regulations. Maintain working knowledge of company policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook. Enforce proper code dating and product rotation standards. Ensure compliance with scheduling guidelines, payroll policies, time clock procedures, benefits, child labor laws, and all employment regulations. Maintain accurate and complete records in accordance with legal and company retention policies. Ensure compliance with grooming standards and dress code. Review and approve department schedules when required to ensure proper staffing. Store Conditions & Merchandising Assist in maintaining excellent store conditions, product quality, labeling standards, and code date compliance. Conduct daily inspections and coach employees on corrective actions. Ensure merchandise is properly priced, displayed, and shelves are clean and well‑maintained. Implement emergency procedures for equipment or software malfunctions. Human Resources Assist with staffing, recruiting, hiring, and training. Evaluate employee performance and participate in personnel decisions including promotions, terminations, and disciplinary actions. Identify training needs for employee development and ensure completion of required training. Resolve employee relations issues—including discrimination, harassment, and labor law concerns—with HR support. Maintain confidentiality regarding employee information, store sales, and company data. Provide clear guidance and instruction to managers, supervisors, and employees. Ensure compliance with cash‑handling procedures, sales accounting, safe operations, and asset protection. Assist in controlling shrink and maintaining inventory levels in backroom and sales floor areas. Support development of operating budgets and control of store operating, maintenance, and supply costs. Assist with completing required reports and administrative paperwork. Prepare sales and inventory reports; participate in physical inventory every four weeks. Ensure accurate inventory of merchandise, supplies, and equipment. Understand and utilize reports including P&L, S&P, invoices, and other store reporting tools. Oversee reclamation processing and maintain organized backroom and department conditions. Recommend equipment or building repairs and improvements to the Store Director. Vendor & Community Relations Maintain positive relationships with vendors, warehouse personnel, and manufacturer representatives. Support community relations efforts and monitor market trends and competitor activity. Operational Equipment & Receiving Operate equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, safety cutters, and Sterilox machines. Perform receiving duties including breaking down loads, verifying invoices, inspecting product quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating merchandise. Ensure proper product temperature levels and compliance with labeling laws and regulations. Operate computer software and electronic ordering systems; requires basic proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and email. Professional Standards Perform all duties safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity. Treat all employees consistently, fairly, and with courtesy, dignity, and respect. Perform other duties as required. Skills and Physical Requirements Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain a professional demeanor. Solid understanding of company practices and department policies. Ability to frequently lift, reach, and maneuver items up to 50 lbs; frequent bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Manual dexterity and strong hand‑eye coordination; ability to stand for extended periods. Mental alertness for safe and accurate task completion. Basic math skills and knowledge of weights and measures. Knowledge of product standards, perishability, handling, sanitation, labeling, and department procedures. Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed; reliable attendance required. Exposure to potential hazards associated with equipment and work aids. Primarily works in a temperature‑controlled environment. Frequent exposure to refrigerated areas around 35°F and occasional exposure to freezer temperatures as low as –20°F. Dependent on length of service, hours worked, any applicable collective bargaining agreement and/or Company policy, benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay, PTO/Vacation pay, paid holidays, bereavement pay and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401(k) eligibility). Associates in this position may be eligible for a quarterly bonus, subject to Company bonus plans. Applications are accepted on an on-going basis.
