The St. Johns County Utility Department is responsible for reading, billing, and collection of approximately 66,000 service connections.
It also administers and coordinates utility status management reporting, reviews engineering drawings, construction management and performs inspections and surveys for new construction just to name a few!Employees work in a team-oriented environment in a variety of divisions with two common goals in mind: to provide the best services to our citizens and to be the best public utility in North Florida.Utility Customer Relations is a dynamic and fast-paced department.
We work Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm with assigned lunch schedules to ensure continuous customer support throughout the day.
The Customer Relations Department is not a call center; however, staff field approximately four to five thousand calls per month.
The St. Johns County Utility Department utilizes a fixed-base radio read system for meter reading.
Customer Relations staff work closely with Meter Shop staff to provide timely service connections and disconnections, collect accurate meter readings, provide leak detection and meter equipment repairsThe Customer Relations Associate Trainee will be responsible for establishing customer accounts through all modes of contact, collecting, and posting utility payments and processing service requests.
The incumbent will work closely with the Meter Shop to support daily operations and administrative requirements.**ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES*** Assists all customers with establishing new services, disconnecting existing service, taking payments, account analysis, issuing service requests and closing service requests upon completion.* Utilizes telemetry system for meter readings, leak detection and high consumption reporting.* Responds to lien searches in a timely manner.* Opens, sorts and preps mailed check payments daily.* Maintains files to include document scanning.* Maintains a full-time presence on the job.* Performs other duties as assigned.**ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS*** High School Diploma or equivalent recognized certification.* Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the major duties of this position, interpreted as having at least one (1) year of customer service experience in any other service industry.* Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.* Must complete County training course work required and progress to the Customer Relations Associate Position within one (1) year of employment assignment.* Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills to serve others.* Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.* Must be able to operate a computer.**ESSENTIAL SKILLS*** Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.* Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.* Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs including customer billing and utility usage and telemetry software.* Skills in oral and written communication.* Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.**ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS*** Working Conditions may include some exposure to environmental changes (e.g., outdoor weather and/or field conditions, warehouses, garages, etc.), extreme noises, odors, heights and/or dust.* Physical Activity may include sitting, walking, lifting heavy objects up to 25lbs, kneeling, crouching, reaching, or standing.Salary Range:$38,833.60 -$55,244.80Compensation Grade:BCC PG10 - BCC PG12Department:Utility Customer ServiceLocation:1205 Florida 16St. Augustine, FL 32084St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is a drug free workplace and equal opportunity employer.
