The

Portfolio Manager

plays a critical role in safeguarding the financial performance and mission outcomes of RDF’s loan portfolio. This position is responsible for proactive portfolio monitoring, borrower engagement, covenant and reporting compliance, internal risk rating accuracy, and early identification of credit concerns. The Portfolio Manager integrates strong financial and portfolio management practices with a commitment to social impact. This role collaborates closely with investment teams, loan operations, finance, external partners, and organizational leadership to ensure robust portfolio performance, timely risk mitigation, and disciplined credit management aligned with RDF’s community development mission.

Requirements Key Responsibilities

Manage an active portfolio of loans across multiple sectors (e.g., education, affordable housing, healthcare, intermediary lending, community facilities).

Monitor loan performance, covenant compliance, and repayment activity.

Conduct ongoing borrower financial analysis (annual and interim, as needed), risk assessments, and portfolio reviews.

Identify early warning indicators of credit risk and recommend corrective actions, including borrower engagement strategies and risk mitigation steps.

Prepare credit memos and recommendations for loan modifications, extensions, waivers, renewals, and restructures.

Prepare periodic portfolio reports for senior leadership, investors, and board committees, including risk trends, covenant compliance, delinquencies, and concentrations.

Support delinquency management and workout strategies, including borrower engagement, repayment plans, and escalation recommendations.

Ensure compliance with internal lending policies, loan documentation requirements and applicable CDFI Fund reporting expectations.

Support the development and implementation of a comprehensive credit administration framework, including credit policies, processes, and procedural documentation.

Partner with Finance on portfolio analytics, cash-flow forecasting, and reserve/ACL support (as applicable).

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and CDFI Fund requirements, as well as internal lending policies.

Train and mentor junior analysts in financial spreading, covenant compliance, and underwriting best practices.

Loan Servicing & Relationship Management

Collaborate with Investment Professionals to ensure smooth hand-offs from origination to asset management and servicing.

Provide team‑oriented support to Investment Professionals, specifically in the areas of core underwriting and portfolio management.

Provide and validate any credit or portfolio information required by funding sources, auditors, or examiners (either directly or by delegation).

Collaborate with Loan Administration to resolve servicing issues and maintain accurate records.

Qualifications

Required

Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, economics, public policy, community development, or related field.

Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial lending, portfolio management, credit analysis, community development, or related financial services sector.

Strong financial and analytical skills, including experience reviewing financial statements, credit underwriting reports, and assessing credit risk.

Knowledge of loan documentation, servicing systems, and risk management practices.

Understanding of community development finance, CDFI business models, and mission‑driven lending.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage borrower relationships with empathy and professionalism.

Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.

Preferred

Experience with real estate, small business, intermediary and nonprofit lending.

Knowledge of federal community development programs (e.g., CDFI Fund, SBA, NMTC, HOME/CDBG).

Familiarity with loan management systems (e.g. Fiscal, Portfol).

Ability to balance credit discipline with mission‑driven flexibility.
