Primary Purpose Of Organizational Unit
University Development’s purpose is to support the mission of the university by raising private resources to enhance financial support for students, faculty, programs, and facilities. University Development provides leadership and centralized services to all development offices throughout the University, serving as a focal point for annual giving, application development and IT support; campaign management; constituent programs; corporate and foundation relations; donor relations; gift planning; gift services; industry relations; marketing/communications; parents giving; principal gifts; prospect management, research and analytics; regional programs; scholarships and student aid; talent management; university events; and volunteer engagement.

Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station. Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director of Volunteer Engagement, the Associate Director of Volunteer Engagement helps support the goals of the University through University Development’s outreach and involvement with alumni and friends, who volunteer and contribute to the University, in North Carolina and across the country. This role blends strategic volunteer engagement and board management to support several keyboards at the University. Additionally, this role manages a portfolio of volunteers and seeks to continue their journey with the institution by encouraging meaningful and impactful giving.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with related experience. For positions with responsibility for direct solicitation of gifts and funds, a minimum of 1 year of professional-level, direct solicitation/fundraising experience is required.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience
Demonstrated ability to manage volunteers or boards. Must be self-motivated, proactive, innovative, and extremely organized with great attention to detail. Given the multiple boards and volunteers this person will both interact with and engage, ability to multitask and prioritize a great number of tasks/projects each day often in a fast-paced environment interacting with a wide range of people is critical. This individual must have excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication (both verbal and written) skills. Ability to interact with key stakeholders, top donors and maintain diplomacy. This individual must be able to work relatively independently on many projects. This position demands excellent computer skills, with proficiency in Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint/Canva/equivalent, administrative skills, and willingness to stay on top of the latest upgrades. Must have a valid driver’s license. Ability to travel and work some evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience
Knowledge of the University and its physical campus. Experience working in a higher education institution or non-profit.
