Senior Vice President of Media Relations and Communications

For more than 25 years, McNicholas & Associates has delivered trusted public relations and public affairs consulting to many of Florida’s most prominent businesses and organizations. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Vice President of Media Relations and Communications to lead earned media strategies and outreach for a growing and diverse client base.

This senior-level role requires a skilled communicator with demonstrated media relationships, strong leadership capabilities, and a deep understanding of the media landscape. The ideal candidate will have proven experience leading teams, crafting compelling narratives, and driving high-impact media coverage at the local, state, and national levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary media contact and spokesperson for clients, building and maintaining strong relationships with reporters, editors, and producers.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive media strategies that align with client goals and deliver measurable results.
  • Proactively pitch stories and secure earned media coverage across traditional, digital, and broadcast platforms.
  • Draft, edit, and oversee a variety of written content, including press releases, statements, op-eds, media advisories, fact sheets, talking points, and promotional materials.
  • Provide strategic counsel and crisis communications support during high-pressure situations.
  • Ensure message consistency and integration across all channels, including digital and print.
  • Collaborate with creative and digital teams to produce engaging multimedia content.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a high-performing communications team.
  • Contribute to overall agency leadership as part of the senior management team.

Qualifications

  • Extensive media relationships and the ability to pitch and place stories at national, state, and local levels.
  • Deep understanding of the media cycle, newsroom operations, and current trends in journalism and public relations.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, including proficiency in AP Style and journalistic standards.
  • Strategic thinking and storytelling ability with a focus on delivering results for clients.
  • Strong leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfort and proficiency in managing multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of content management systems, social media platforms, digital marketing, SEO, and analytics.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in media relations, journalism, public relations, or strategic communications.
  • Proven track record of securing high-profile media coverage and managing media campaigns.
  • Experience managing digital content and integrating traditional and digital communications strategies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
