Position Summary As an integral member of Stonehill College’s Department of Athletics, the Head Field Hockey Coach will be responsible for all aspects of the structure, leadership, and administration of the Field Hockey program in a manner that aligns with the mission and values of the College and Athletics department. This position includes coaching and instruction, the recruitment and retention of student-athletes, monitoring student-athlete development and academic success; striving for competitive success; fiscal oversight and program administration, management of assistant coaches and staff, and verifying the program’s compliance with policies, rules, and regulations set forth by Stonehill College, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and Northeast Conference (NEC). Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Serves as a critical leader in fostering a campus culture in which differences are embraced and works to advance the College’s mission of diversity and inclusion. • Maintain current knowledge and ensure compliance with all policies, rules, and regulations set forth by Stonehill College, Division I Conference, and the NCAA, as well as federal, state, and local laws. • Supervise and promote an atmosphere of compliance within the Field Hockey program, monitoring activities of all assistant coaches and staff who report directly to the Head Coach. • Operate a fiscally responsible program, including the cooperation in development and adherence to program budgets allocated by the Athletic Department, as well as ensuring compliance with all institutional business policies and procedures. • Manage assistant coaches and staff working directly with the program, including hiring, training, and supervision. Set clear performance expectations and provide sincere feedback to guide their performance and promote professional development and growth. • Maintain relationships with all staff and offices within the Department of Athletics, including athletic training, strength and conditioning, compliance, athletic communications, internal operations, equipment, business operations, and all other staff members responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Department of Athletics. • Recruit highly qualified prospective student-athletes who demonstrate the potential to be successful academically and productive contributors to the Field Hockey program. • Teach and impart to student-athletes the skills and knowledge essential to the sport. • Responsible for game strategy, game day coaching, and practice preparation in accordance with NCAA and Conference regulations. • Promote a program culture that prioritizes and supports student-athlete academic success. • Mentor and monitor student-athlete development both on and off the field; ensuring academic and athletic success, citizenship, sportsmanship, and positive values consistent with the mission of Stonehill College. • Promote the Department of Athletics and Field Hockey program through community events, public speaking, fundraising, and marketing. Build and maintain effective relationships with alumni to promote engagement with the College and lead strategic fundraising plans and activities to support program initiatives and advancement. • Job may require other duties as assigned. Education and/or Experience • Successful candidate must have a bachelor’s degree and previous Field Hockey coaching experience. • Minimum of 5 years’ collegiate coaching experience preferred. • NCAA Division I coaching experience preferred. • Head coaching experience preferred. Preferred Qualifications • Previous collegiate field hockey coaching experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures. • Well-versed and knowledgeable in matters pertaining to the sport and governing body. • Ability to use discretion and sound judgment. • Strong leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal communication skills • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with the community, faculty, students, and staff. • Ability to develop student-athletes to compete at conference, regional, and national competitive levels. Physical Demands • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Frequent travel, evening, and weekend work.
