Position Summary:

The Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Support directs all aspects of academic support services for student-athletes for CU Athletics’ 21 sports. The position will manage the recruitment and hiring of staff, and have direct supervision of academic support personnel, including academic coordinators, advisors and tutors. The position will also serve as a liaison for the Department of Athletics to various university constituencies, including the Office of Student Success, University Registrar, Residence Life and the Office of Student Life. The position will provide academic counseling supervision for designated sport teams and report to Deputy AD, COO and/or Director of Athletics regularly on academic matters.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Direct supervision of the day-to-day operations in the Student-Athlete Support unit and all associated personnel in the Department of Athletics.

Sets performance standards and expectations for staff to ensure the annual performance evaluation process promotes high standards of performance within the unit.

Serve as a liaison to various university constituencies, including the Office of Student Success, University Registrar, Residence Life and the Office of Student Life, cultivating opportunities for expanded academic support and collaborative opportunities between students and student-athletes.

Supervise academic support personnel to coordinate fundamental student-athlete support services, including tracking of grades, developing individualized academic recovery plans, creating and implementing study hall and tutoring schedules, meeting with student-athletes to track academic progress, confirming student-athletes are registered for necessary classes to ensure successful progress toward degree requirements are met, conducting transfer eligibility evaluations as needed, and report development and dissemination to the appropriate parties.

Evaluates all 2 and 4 year transfer transcripts to help determine transfer eligibility and course equivalencies.

After final transcript evaluation by our university registrar, this position will research and analyze all transfer credit: researches and analyzes transfer credit work and integrates relevant courses into transfer equivalency buckets.

Troubleshoots course replacement: assist the university registrar to help place transferable courses within degree programs based on university policies and curriculum.

Oversee the Office of Student Athlete Development. Staff will provide programing in the areas of Leadership Development, Career Development, Community Service and Campus Engagement and SAAC (Student Athlete Advisory Committee).

Serve as sport administrator for various athletic programs within the athletic department.

Conduct initial eligibility reviews and continuing eligibility protocols for student-athletes.

Conduct weekly meetings with staff to address any academic concerns with student-athletes and develop resolutions through collaboration with coaches and professors.

Assist in planning for other programming within the athletic department and Student-Athlete Support area, including professional development and community outreach initiatives.

Other duties as assigned by the Deputy AD, COO and/or Director of Athletics.

Conduct all activities in compliance with NCAA, CAA, Southern Conference, Coastal Collegiate Sports Association and University rules and regulations.

Education/Experience

Master’s Degree preferred. Specific in Education, Psychology, Sport Administration, Business Management, and or related field.

Excellent organization skills; ability to prioritize work and multitask.

Excellent analytical as well as computing skills to include Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Ability to mentor a caseload of at-risk student-athletes.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to adhere to the rules, bylaws and guidelines of the NCAA, affiliated conferences), Campbell University, FERPA, etc.

Available to work flexible hours.

Ability to work in a collaborative creative environment producing work that not only aligns with the overall mission of the department, but also advances the overall mission and goals of the university.

Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.

Must have strong interpersonal skills, operate meticulously, and set appropriate professional boundaries with student-athletes.

Ability to routinely and independently exercise sound judgment in making decisions; ability to take initiative and ownership of projects.
