Overview

The Compliance Specialist is responsible for supporting the company’s regulatory compliance obligations related to the importation, exportation, sale, and distribution of firearms, ammunition, and other controlled goods. This role assists with U.S. and international trade compliance requirements, including ATF, BIS, ITAR/DDTC, and OFAC regulations, and provides compliance support for eCommerce firearm and controlled product orders. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable working in a highly regulated environment with strict documentation and audit requirements. Responsibilities

Assist with compliance activities related to importing and exporting firearms, ammunition, parts, accessories, and other controlled goods. Support preparation, submission, and tracking of import/export licenses, permits, and related documentation. Maintain accurate records in compliance with ATF, BIS (EAR), ITAR/DDTC, and OFAC requirements. Assist with product classification (EAR, ITAR, HTS, ECCN). Coordinate with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and government agencies as needed. Monitor regulatory changes and assist with implementation of updated compliance procedures. Regulatory & Agency Compliance Support

Assist with ATF compliance activities, including recordkeeping, audits, inspections, and reporting. Support BIS and ITAR/DDTC compliance programs, including licensing, agreements, and technology control plans. Assist with OFAC screening for customers, vendors, and international partners. Maintain organized compliance files and audit-ready documentation. Support internal compliance reviews and corrective action efforts. eCommerce Compliance Support

Assist with compliance review of eCommerce firearm and controlled-product orders. Support verification of customer eligibility, licensing, and shipping restrictions. Coordinate with customer service, sales, and fulfillment teams to resolve compliance-related order issues. Training & Internal Support

Assist with compliance training materials and internal communications. Serve as a point of contact for basic compliance-related questions from internal teams. Support ongoing improvements to compliance policies, procedures, and systems. Qualifications

Minimum 1–3 years of experience working with ATF, BIS (EAR), ITAR/DDTC, and/or OFAC regulations Experience in firearms, defense, manufacturing, or other highly regulated industries. In-depth knowledge of ATF regulations and familiarity with ITAR/EAR export controls. Proven experience preparing ATF forms, conducting audits, and managing records for FFL and SOT operations. Strong understanding of firearms classification, serial number tracking, and marking requirements. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively across departments and interact professionally with government regulators. Proficient in Microsoft Office and compliance management systems; experience with ERP or inventory tracking software preferred.
