Summer Camp Director- Outdoor Recreation

Overview
The purpose of this classification is to administer program activities that are safe and age appropriate for camp participants in activities such as, but not limited to, hiking, rock climbing, tree climbing, paddlesports, archery, and crafts. This classification also assists in the management of the overall camp operation at the direction of the Outdoor Recreation Supervisor/Coordinator and oversees the delegation of camp counselor staff responsibilities. Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Assists in training of camp counselors. Supervises camp counselors; assigns camp counselors to specific duties and responsibilities. Selects equipment and supplies needed for planned activities; maintains and organizes camp equipment. Prepares facilities and equipment for camp activities; cleans and maintains camp facilities. Ensures that all rules are followed by camp participants, staff and parents; maintains clear and positive communication with Outdoor Recreation Supervisor/Coordinator, counselors, parents and camp participants. Attends weekly field trips as needed and staff meetings. Facilitates camp activities and programming as needed. Completes and maintains camp health forms, injury reports, disciplinary records, and other camp documentation. Drives the division’s 15-passenger sprinter vans and other county vehicles to and from local and regional activity destinations. Administers First Aid and reports injuries/accidents/illnesses to Recreation Supervisor/Coordinator. Reports facility issues and supply needs to Outdoor Recreation Supervisor/Coordinator. Provides performance feedback to camp counselors and brings disciplinary issues to the attention of the Outdoor Recreation Supervisor/Coordinator. Qualifications
Age 21 is preferred, with age 20 being the minimum requirement. Two or more years of responsible experience working with youth in a camp, educational or program setting is required. Must possess organizational skills; be enthusiastic, adaptable, dependable and responsible. Must be able to work outdoors and participate in active games and programming. Must possess a valid Georgia driver’s license and able to attend CPR training prior to summer camp.
