Overview

The City of Lawrenceville, Georgia is seeking a new Utilities Director who is ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities of the position in a diverse and growing community. Lawrenceville was established in 1821 and serves as the county seat of Gwinnett County, Georgia. It is a suburb of Atlanta, located approximately 30 miles northeast of downtown with a population of approximately 31,000. The city is governed by a council-manager form of government. The City Council determines the city policies, and the City Manager is then responsible for city operations and execution of the set policies. The Utilities Director serves as a member of the City’s Executive Team and plays a key role in emergency response coordination and intergovernmental and industry partnerships. Responsibilities

The Utilities Director is responsible for department-wide planning, policy implementation, budget oversight, capital planning, and system performance, while ensuring reliable service, regulatory compliance, and long-term utility capacity for the community. Direct supervision over the Damage Prevention Director, Electric Director, and the Natural Gas Director. Directs the City’s electric, natural gas, and damage prevention operations. Manages wholesale utility purchases. Leads long-term utility capacity planning; administers key account procedures. Develops and implements short- and long-range plans for the system including projects and equipment ensuring the annual five (5) year Capital Plan is updated and addresses future needs of the City. Oversees project plans and specifications along with engineering calculations and designs; oversees the work of outside professionals, including those providing design and construction services. Oversees, trains, assigns, directs, schedules, supervises, evaluates and disciplines personnel; ensures the development of job safety procedures and training is addressed in each utility department. Ensures the delivery of high-quality customer service in the delivery of electric and gas utilities to a diverse and expanding community. Notes that candidates with substantial experience in both electric and natural gas services are preferred; applicants with strong background in one utility and supplementary experience in the other will be considered. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, electrical engineering, public administration, project management or a closely related field; master’s degree preferred. A minimum of five years of upper-level leadership experience in a public utility organization or closely related organization, with a combination of training, education, and/or experience considered. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia. Professional Engineer (PE) is highly desired but not required. Compensation and Benefits

The expected starting salary range for this position is $158,000 – $195,000 (depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate), with a comprehensive benefits package, including low-cost health, vision, and dental insurance options, including free options. The Utilities Director position also includes a city-provided vehicle or car allowance and paid time off (PTO). The City provides free short-term disability, long-term disability, accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D), and life insurance - two times the employee’s annual salary. The City’s generous retirement plan provides a 4% contribution to the plan. The city provides additional 6% match when the employee contributes 4%. How to apply
