Summary Description: Reporting to the Senior Director of Institutional Advancement, the Senior Manager of Institutional Advancement is a key member of the Advancement team supporting AAUW’s fundraising efforts towards our annual fundraising goal. The Senior Manager will provide project management support of essential Advancement team functions, including oversight of the team’s new audience growth, moves management processes and grants management systems, as well as oversight of AAUW’s sponsorship activities, including sponsored virtual and in-person events.
Essential Duties
- Lead the development and management of Major Gift, Corporate and Foundation pipelines, including the creation and execution of donor engagement strategies.
- Oversee grants management systems, collaborating with AAUW project leads monitor grant deliverables and manage grant all aspects of grant reporting processes. Ensure monthly tracking of grant expenditures for accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Design and implement donor recognition and stewardship processes in partnership with Advancement Team colleagues, including drafting acknowledgement letters, managing online donor recognition and branding initiatives, and developing comprehensive communication plans where needed.
- Conduct prospect research, including identification of new prospects, in-depth funder analyses, and preparation of briefing materials for organizational leadership.
- Coordinate the submission of grant proposals for AAUW’s top funding priorities, ensuring adherence to key deadlines and content requirements.
- Proactively solicit and cultivate relationships within a personal portfolio of prospects.
- Develop and produce collateral materials to support AAUW’s top funding priorities, ensuring alignment with organizational branding and messaging.
- Manage the corporate and foundation relations budget and collaborate with the Senior Manager of Major and Planned Giving to oversee the Major and Planned Giving budget.
- Track, analyze, and report on fundraising progress, donor retention, and campaign effectiveness; prepare regular reports for senior leadership and/or the Board of Directors.
Funder and New Audience Engagement
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward a targeted portfolio of institutional partners (corporate, foundation and Major Gift, to support event sponsorships, webinar programs, and other initiatives.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with AAUW colleagues to identify and pursue funding and engagement opportunities with prospective funders and new audiences.
- Partner with the Senior Director of Institutional Advancement to strengthen relationships with institutional partnerships, Major Gift prospects and support new audience relationships with institutional partners and Major Gift prospects, and to support new initiatives for audience growth. These initiatives may include engagement of AAUW’s Fellowships and Grants Alumnae, corporate employee resource groups (ERGs), brand promotion via digital marketing, and strategic organizational partnerships.
- Ensure all engagement and communication efforts consistently reflect and promote AAUW’s mission.
- Promote AAUW’s culture and values, in particular AAUW’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and an active commitment to AAUW’s mission.
- Develop close partnerships with all AAUW departments and teams towards the collaborative implementation of projects.
- Other administrative duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; minimum 6 years of full‑time professional work experience; fundraising experience required; CFRE preferred.
- Attention to detail, significant organizational, and other project management skills necessary.
- Excellent writing, presentation, and proposal development skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with diverse audiences—including individuals, groups, corporate executives, and non‑profit executives and Board members—and the demonstrated ability to solve problems creatively and tactfully.
- Innovation and flexibility required.
- CRM or other database experience. Prior experience with Salesforce/Nimble AMS preferred.
- Proficient in using technology in management, budgeting, and reporting functions; experience working with information technology staff to develop systems and reports
- Ability to work with and keep confidential sensitive information.

Compensation and Location
The salary range for this position is $92,000 to $138,000 (commensurate with experience) and it is offered along with a competitive benefits package. The position is based in Washington, DC. AAUW is a non‑profit organization whose headquarters and staff are based in Washington, D.C. This is an in‑office position with the option of working remotely up to three days per week. In keeping with AAUW's commitment to a safe working environment, AAUW may require selected candidates to submit proof of full vaccination against COVID‑19 prior to extending a job offer. If a candidate has a qualifying medical condition that contraindicates a covid‑19 vaccination, a medical exemption form should be requested from Human Resources.
