Executive Underwriter / AVP, Underwriter Director – Construction Professional Liability

Zurich North America is seeking an experienced Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriter Director – Construction Professional Liability to join our Specialties Construction team. This role may be based at any Zurich office location or remote, at the discretion of the hiring manager.

Responsibilities

• Administer and monitor underwriting rules, guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating annual rules.
• Develop and maintain relationships with Line of Business representatives to support referrals and other business-related needs.
• Provide guidance to lower-level associates.
• Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) to support business retention and acquisition and determine their insurance-related needs and provide solutions.
• Support the sales culture by being a Help Point for agents, brokers and customers.
• Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
• Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
• Qualify accounts to align with the organization’s appetite while identifying sound business opportunities.
• Make broker/customer onsite calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose.

Basic Qualifications – Executive Underwriter Level

• High School Diploma or equivalent plus 5+ years of experience in underwriting or market-facing area, OR
• High School Diploma or equivalent plus 10+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support area, OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice – Associate degree plus 3+ years in underwriting or market-facing area, OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice – Associate degree plus 8+ years in claims or underwriting support area AND
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
• Experience working in a team environment.

Basic Qualifications – AVP, Underwriter Director Level

• High School Diploma or equivalent plus 7+ years of experience in underwriting or market-facing area.
• High School Diploma or equivalent plus 14+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support area, OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice – Associate degree plus 5+ years in underwriting or market-facing area, OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice – Associate degree plus 12+ years in claims or underwriting support area AND
• Experience with Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications (Both Levels)

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Technical knowledge of Construction Professional Liability underwriting.
• Established broker relationships (retail brokers).
• Sales execution mindset.
• Creative problem‑solving skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Compensation

Pay ranges are based on role, location, skills, and experience. Potential bonus and merit increases are available.

Executive Underwriter: $98,500 – $165,000 base with 15% short‑term bonus eligibility.

AVP, Underwriter Director: $130,000 – $215,000 base with 20% short‑term bonus eligibility.
