Job Title: Electrical Engineering Director

Job Description

As an Electrical Engineering Director, you will manage and oversee electrical engineering projects from inception to completion, collaborating closely with the Project Manager and other team members to ensure project success. You will be responsible for producing and reviewing drawing sets, stamping others' work, and coordinating with utilities to upgrade services to the site, including switchgears and transformers. Your role will involve conducting power system modeling using SKM, Easypower, and ETAP, performing flash studies, relay coordination, and preparing detailed reports. You will work with electricians on start-up projects, conduct site visits for load studies and upgrades, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee electrical engineering projects from start to finish.

  • Produce and review drawing sets and stamp others\' work.

  • Coordinate with utilities to upgrade site services, including switchgears and transformers.

  • Conduct power system modeling using SKM, Easypower, and ETAP.

  • Perform flash studies and relay coordination.

  • Prepare detailed reports and documentation.

  • Collaborate with electricians on start-up projects and conduct site visits for load studies and upgrades.

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

  • Complete medium and low voltage electrical engineering calculations and documentation packages.

  • Apply extensive knowledge of relevant codes such as NFPA 70, 70E, 30, 58, and 497, NEMA, API 500 & 540, IEEE.

  • Coordinate project deliverables, deadlines, and interdisciplinary needs among the engineering team.

  • Collaborate with electrical designers to develop and check various plans and diagrams.

  • Communicate with clients and electrical utilities regarding new or upgraded service installations.

  • Coordinate with mechanical, civil, process, and structural engineers to identify potential conflicts and efficiencies.

  • Support business development opportunities and assist in marketing efforts, including proposal preparation, scope, and budget.

  • Perform contractor construction submittal reviews and coordinate with equipment vendors to review and approve specifications.

  • Travel within the United States 15% to 20% for site investigations, design reviews, and construction support.

Essential Skills

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license via NCEES.

  • Extensive experience in power systems, particularly 15kV and lower, with a focus on 600V and lower.

  • Experience in bringing utility voltage down to transformers.

  • Proficiency in power system modeling software (SKM, Easypower, ETAP).

  • Experience in design and review of electrical systems.

  • Strong knowledge of electrical equipment and breakers.

  • 10+ years of experience in industrial market sector projects, including project development from concept to completion, estimating, start-up, and commissioning.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in the pulp and paper industry is a plus.

  • Familiarity with overhead utility systems is beneficial.

  • Previous experience working with power distribution systems.

Work Environment

This is a 100% remote role with 15% travel requirements to job sites and client meetings. Our client is a consulting engineering firm based out of Portland, OR, providing multi-discipline engineering study, design, and construction management services to industrial clients. The company offers a more traditional environment, having been around since the 70s with the owners/founders still involved. Benefits include starting with 3 weeks of PTO, 1 week of sick leave, holiday pay, a bonus program, and the opportunity to move into an ownership stake with the company. The position offers competitive pay, and all hours worked are compensated. Travel expenses are covered where applicable.
