Early‑stage, nonprofit‑obsessed, boutique consulting firm seeks an experienced, mission‑driven accounting and management professional to join our growing team.

This Director of Finance position offers the right candidate a chance to build meaningful connections while deepening their financial expertise in the nonprofit sector. Ideal for an accounting professional ready to level up into client advising, complex reconciliations, and business management — without the pressure of a traditional corporate environment.

Salary range $85k - $100k annually. Remote first, 35 hour work week, unlimited vacation, flexible scheduling, pro work / life balance, 3% matching 401k, and health benefits through a QSEHRA.

We are a referral‑only boutique consulting firm that provides CFO / COO / Executive Director support and ongoing management services to nonprofit and mission‑based organizations in San Diego and Southern California. We specialize in all the boring things ( finance, accounting, HR, operations ) that make magic and mission possible. We are in the weeds, in the board rooms, at the fundraising lunches and at the strategic planning retreats. We believe in high touch, deep impact engagements that generate meaningful and tangible results of quality that surprise clients and leads to a robust referral pipeline.

Founded in 2019, we currently have thirty five ongoing nonprofit clients, have provided excellent service to more than one hundred organizations since inception, and continue to grow.

About The Position

As a Director of Finance, you’ll provide advanced accounting support for multiple accounts, ensure that deliverables are up to our high standards, provide senior support to a team of accountants, lead on complicated projects, and serve as a resource to both clients and internal staff.

This position bridges the gap between Controllers and the company CEO, providing advanced accounting oversight focused on reporting and deliverables.

Responsibilities

Client Service

You will provide senior leadership to client engagements, including financial reporting, managing monthly close, building forecast models, and audit management

Quality Control

You’ll help ensure that deliverables of all types meet our very high standards for accuracy, helpfulness, and design

Workflow

Working with the CEO, you will manage team capacity and client assignments

Client Onboarding

You will manage the intake and onboarding process for new clients, including contracting

Team Trainings

You will plan and organize internal trainings and assemble off the shelf resources for team sill development

Productivity

You will ensure that we have the right productive tools in place and that tools are used consistently

Advising

Leveraging years of experience, you will help clients make decisions around insurance, human resources, information systems, internal controls, and strategic finance

Automation

As someone who is tech‑savvy, you’ll help clients use technology and smart data architecture to automate or streamline processes as much as possible

Team Management

You will help manage internal teams and provide oversight for on‑site client teams

Mission Minded

With an understanding of what really matters to our clients, you will make decisions that prioritize mission returns and programmatic impact

Customer Service

You will become a trusted, valued, and liked member of client management teams

Skills & Qualifications
  • 10+ years of increasing responsibilities in accounting or finance department
  • QuickBooks native ( like a fish in water )
  • Expert understanding of GAAP
  • Customer service focused with great communication, both internally and with our clients
  • Ability to simultaneously self‑manage multiple priorities and overlapping deadlines
  • Ability to take initiative and solve problems independently
  • Personal drive to make a meaningful difference in our San Diego community
  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance required, Master’s Degree preferred
  • CPA or Enrolled Agent preferred
