Position Summary
The Director of Applications is a hands-on member of the senior Information Systems management team responsible for the strategy, delivery, and day-to-day reliability of the Firm’s enterprise applications and data integrations. This role leads application modernization, cloud adoption, and artificial intelligence, while directly contributing to solution design, configuration, integration, and troubleshooting to ensure secure, stable, and high-performing systems that enable attorneys and business professionals to deliver exceptional client service.
Reporting Structure:
Reports directly to the Chief Information Officer.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in the Firm’s strategic planning process for Information Systems; maintain a multi-year roadmap for enterprise applications, data integrations, analytics, and cloud platforms.
  • Establish operational procedures to (a) ensure high performance and ongoing stability of all systems; (b) leverage the Firm’s data centers and cloud platforms to ensure high availability and minimal downtime; and (c) maximize efficiencies in IS operations.
  • Build, Lead and mentor the Enterprise Applications team responsible for design, implementation, integration, upgrades, and support of the Firm’s applications portfolio.
  • Serve as product owner for key platforms (e.g., DMS, Finance/Time & Billing, HR, Conflicts/Intake, Collaboration, Workflow)
  • Drive application modernization—evaluate, select, and migrate appropriate systems to SaaS/cloud; retire technical debt; and implement best practices for configuration, testing, and change management (ITIL-aligned).
  • Own application lifecycle management: requirements, evaluation, proof-of-concept, implementation, documentation, knowledge transfer, and continuous improvement.
  • Hands-on design and delivery of integrations and automation using tools such as, Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate/Power Apps), Azure Logic Apps, and REST/SOAP APIs.
  • Hands-on data management including SQL, ETL/ELT (SSIS/Azure Data Factory), and report/dashboard development (SSRS/Power BI) with attention to data quality, governance, and security.
  • Oversee incident/problem/change management, root-cause analysis, and major incident response; establish SLAs/OLAs and KPIs for service delivery and reliability.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and practice groups to understand needs, prioritize backlogs, and lead change management and user adoption initiatives (training, communications, champions).
  • Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory requirements, partner with Director of Infrastructure and Security on access controls, audit, and application hardening.
  • Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and business cases; track ROI and total cost of ownership (TCO) for application investments.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing team; deliver performance evaluations and professional development plans; cultivate a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Specific Skills and Requirements
A minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience in enterprise applications within a professional services or law firm environment, including 5+ years leading teams. Hands-on expertise across several of the following is strongly preferred:

  • Document Management: iManage Work (on-prem or Cloud) or NetDocuments; metadata, security models, workspace design, and integrations.
  • Finance/Practice Management & Timekeeping: Elite 3E, Intapp Time, iTimekeep; billing workflows, rates, and integrations to DMS/records.
  • New Business Intake/Conflicts & Workflow: Intapp Open/Conflicts, Walls, Terms; policy design and integration with HR/Finance/DMS.
  • Collaboration & Knowledge Platforms: Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint Online/OneDrive, site architecture, governance, and lifecycle.
  • HRIS/ERP/CRM: ADP, Workday, Dynamics 365, , viDesktop/vEval/viLMS/viRecruit (or similar).
  • Integration & Automation: Azure Logic Apps, Power Automate/Power Apps, web services (REST/SOAP), SSO/SAML/OIDC.
  • Data, Reporting & Analytics: Microsoft SQL Server, T-SQL, SSIS/SSRS/SSAS, Azure Data Factory, and Power BI; data modeling and governance.
  • IT Service Management: Experience working within ITIL-based incident, problem, and change processes and CAB participation.
  • Security & Compliance: Role-based access, data classification, ethical walls, DLP, audit logging, and privacy considerations.

Education and General Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field; relevant certifications (e.g., Intapp, iManage/NetDocuments, Microsoft/Azure, ITIL) are a plus.
