The opportunity

This is the most senior legal role for North America, reporting directly to the Global General Counsel and operating as a core member of the regional leadership team.

You will lead legal across the region while contributing at a global level, in a business that values pace, accountability and commercial judgement over process.

What you will be doing

• Acting as the primary legal adviser for North America
• Providing pragmatic, business-focused legal advice to senior stakeholders
• Leading commercial contract review, drafting and negotiation
• Managing litigation through external counsel
• Overseeing advertising and marketing compliance at senior level
• Handling employment, privacy and competition matters as required
• Managing external law firm relationships and legal spend
• Leading and developing a small, entrepreneurial legal team
• Working closely with global legal leadership and regional executives

Essential requirements

• Law degree and admission to a US State Bar in good standing
• Minimum 10 years’ post-qualification experience
• Significant in-house experience within consumer products or a comparable commercial environment
• Strong commercial contracts expertise (non-negotiable)
• Experience managing litigation via external counsel
• Proven ability to operate as the most senior legal adviser for a region or business area
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills

Desirable experience

• Advertising and marketing law exposure
• Employment, privacy or antitrust experience
• Soft intellectual property knowledge (trademark and copyright)
• Experience working in international or private equity-backed organisations
