Summary The Chief Lending Officer is an executive level position responsible for the overall development and implementation of all performance of the Loan Department. The position is essential in maintaining appropriate loan portfolio quality, coordinating the bank's credit underwriting, delinquency follow-up, and reporting loan portfolio metrics to the CEO, Board of Directors and all appropriate regulatory agencies. The CLO works in collaboration with the Loan Operations Supervisor, relating to the production of loan documents in the opening, servicing and closing of all loans.

Essential Duties

The Chief Lending Officer will regularly, at a minimum semi-annually review the Bank Loan policy and procedures and present recommendations to the Board as deemed necessary. The CLO is responsible for making sure loan officers and staff are adhering to the policy and procedures outlined and approved by the Board.

Reinforces the application of superior customer service through his or her own example along with appropriate follow through with involved customers and employees; conducts specific periodic meetings and presentations on this topic with all staff members.

Oversees business development and calling activities with loan officers in acquiring new customer relationships in loans, deposits, and ancillary bank services/products.

Responsible for managing the Loan Department, in collaboration with the Loan Operations Supervisor, by ensuring accurate and timely servicing of the Bank's loan portfolio, overseeing the production of loan documentation relating to the opening, servicing and closing of all loans, and ensuring loans and agreements comply with state and federal laws, regulations and Bank lending policies and procedures.

Ensures department activities run smoothly and efficiently; provides leadership, training and supervision within the department; provides a high level of customer relations and service; performs direct supervisory duties of department staff and loan officers, coordinates staff for coverage in all related areas of the department; and is required to be fully knowledgeable and skilled in all areas of servicing loans.

Plays a positive role in the development and growth of assigned department staff through excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, along with strong delegation skills assuring a highly cross-trained monitors training needs of loan officers and provides informal/formal training as necessary to maintain a knowledgeable lending team.

Implements costs controls for the department and monitors expenses to ensure compliance with budget.

Consistently applies superior decision-making techniques pertaining to inquiries, approvals, requests as they apply to existing policies and procedures, keeping within assigned approval limits and using these instances as learning tools for employee development.

Assists Loan Officers, and other Bank personnel on department business to coordinate inter and intra-departmental activities; resolves inquiries or issues relating to loan documentation preparation matters.

Oversees the maintenance of an accurate Watch/Substandard Loan Services and maintains data on non-accrual and/or charged-off loans; makes loan grade changes approved within his/her or loan committee authority.

Ensures implementation and compliance to meet security precautions and protect customer loans, collateral, Bank assets and staff.

Provides supervision and support to all areas of the department where service or assistance is needed; oversees activities of assigned department personnel.

Performs personnel actions including performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, and interviewing candidates for employment, supervises the daily activities of the department including, but not limited to, effective delegation of assignments, developing work schedules, and providing necessary training.

Service and maintain a portfolio of loans as determined by the Processes, solves and answers complex customer transactions, problems or inquiries.

Education and/or Experience Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university plus additional training or fifteen years of banking experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common financial reports, loan and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to customers, potential customers, and public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Other Skills and Abilities Must have strong leadership skills including problem solving, delegating, mentoring, listening, positivity, reliability, empathy, team building, creativity and adaptability while facilitating the advancement of the mission, core values, goals and objectives of KCB.

Must have the knowledge and experience relevant to a financial institution including accounting, banking, budgeting, policies and procedures, lending, and regulatory requirements and risk management.
