Position Overview System One is seeking an experienced
MCFR Electrical Designer (Contract)
to support advanced nuclear and industrial design projects. This role is responsible for generating and maintaining plant electrical designs and layouts using AutoCAD Plant 3D and AutoCAD Electrical. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with system engineers and multidisciplinary teams to develop accurate electrical models, drawings, and schedules while ensuring strict configuration control and code compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Generate and maintain plant design and layout models using
AutoCAD Plant 3D .
Develop electrical models for
cable tray systems, conduits, instrumentation, cabinets, junction boxes, and electrical equipment .
Create drawings including
wiring schematics, junction box diagrams, panel layouts, loop diagrams, and single line diagrams (SLDs) .
Support development of
cable schedules, conduit schedules, and tray schedules .
Produce or integrate 3D CAD models from other software platforms to support design evolution.
Maintain
configuration control
of models and drawings.
Use model data to support engineering analyses such as:
Raceway and conduit layout analysis
Electrical load lists and loading analysis
Fault analysis
Environmental and code compliance analysis
Collaborate with system engineers to develop:
Functional block diagrams (BFDs)
P&IDs
Wiring and loop diagrams
Instrumentation supports and equipment mounting details
Create and review engineering drawings including:
Equipment arrangements
Layouts, isometrics, interface controls, and detailed fabrication drawings
Leverage the AutoCAD Plant 3D database to generate:
Equipment lists
Line lists
Instrument lists
Bills of material (BOMs)
Check and review drawings for accuracy and compliance with industry and
System One drafting standards
using electronic redlines.
Document design progress, changes, and decisions using internal collaboration tools.
Compile and maintain model review files using tools such as
Autodesk Navisworks .
Use
AutoCAD Electrical
to generate drawings and communicate electrical and I&C design information.
Apply applicable codes and standards including:
National Electrical Code (NEC)
Washington State / Seattle Energy Code
Washington Administrative Code (WAC)
Idaho Administrative Code
FGI Guidelines
NFPA 72, 99, 101, 110
IEEE 384
Key Qualifications and Skills
Trade School certificate or
Associate’s degree
in a technical discipline.
6 years (Level 10)
or
10 years (Level 11)
of relevant electrical design experience.
Strong CAD proficiency in:
AutoCAD Plant 3D
Autodesk Navisworks
AutoCAD Electrical (preferred)
Demonstrated experience with:
Plant and piping layout
PFD and
P&ID development
Electrical wiring diagrams and
single line diagrams
Electrical and I&C design in commercial/industrial environments
Experience checking
design and fabrication drawings
for accuracy and compliance.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
Highly organized and detail-oriented with excellent writing and communication skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal direction to solve challenging design problems.
Proven ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
High degree of integrity, trustworthiness, and professionalism with a strong commitment to teamwork.
Preferred Experience
Experience supporting nuclear, power generation, or large industrial facilities.
Familiarity with configuration management and formal design control environments.
Experience producing electrical models and documentation for complex facilities.
