Streetlight Utility Designer
— Pay: $25.00 – $40.00 per hour (based on experience)
We are looking for a
Streetlight Utility Designer
to join a growing engineering team supporting power utility clients across the Midwest. This role focuses on the design and analysis of overhead and underground power distribution and streetlighting systems, working closely with internal teams and utility partners.
Job Summary The Streetlight Utility Designer is responsible for providing accurate utility design services using various computer systems and software applications. This role supports the planning, design, and construction of streetlight and power distribution systems while ensuring compliance with client standards and specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Select and interpret data using map-based platforms such as ESRI and Google Earth
Perform field inspections of overhead and underground streetlight construction to ensure compliance with standards
Coordinate and negotiate with residential and commercial customers when requested by the client
Participate in meetings and group discussions, providing input on services and solutions
Prepare proposals, presentations, and work unit procedures as needed
Support employee training and facilitate group discussions
Develop streetlight designs and
perform photometric analysis using AGi32 software
Utilize AGi32 software for lighting calculations and design validation
Conduct research, field visits, and support job scoping activities
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Project Manager
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent with coursework in at least three of the following: drafting/CAD, basic electricity, physics, mathematics (geometry or trigonometry)
Associate’s degree in a technical or design field preferred
Minimum
2 years of experience
in an electrical utility planning role if education requirements are not met
Required: Hands-on experience using AGi32 software for streetlighting design and photometric analysis
Experience with
AutoCAD and Civil 3D
Experience with
ESRI, ArcGIS, and MicroStation
preferred
Experience with all phases of engineering document production and understanding drawings/specifications preferred
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Interpret sketches, drawings, and technical documentation
Primarily office-based with some field work as needed
Ability to travel and work in the field when required
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly pay range:
$25.00 – $40.00 , depending on experience
