Customer Service Representative
Performs a variety of customer service related work in the Utility Billing Department Customer Service Division. Responsible for performing various customer service duties and providing consistent, professional customer service, working independently under the general direction of the immediate supervisor.
Responsibilities
Provides service interacting with high volume of customers by phone and in person regarding utility accounts.
Apply payments to accounts accurately which involves cash handling and reconciling daily cash batches.
Balance and reconcile daily cash batches and prepare daily bank deposits.
Perform research regarding account payments and adjustments.
Explain components of the utility bill to utility customers.
Establish new utility accounts ensuring appropriate documentation is provided.
Update existing accounts with necessary information.
Calculate adjustments to customer accounts using basic math skills.
Problem solving regarding utility accounts, answer questions regarding billing via telephone, email and in person in a courteous tone and professional and respectful manner.
Operate various office equipment, including computer and 10-key calculator.
Work as a contributing member to a team environment.
Performs other related functions as requested by supervisor and department head.
Education / Experience High school diploma / GED and (2) two years of related customer service working experience, or an equivalent combination of formal education and working experience.

Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations None
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
Knowledge and ability to operate various office equipment and machines, including personal computers.
Ability to interact effectively and tactfully with the public.
li>Must have good interpersonal and communication skills to deal with public. Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
Ability to count cash and perform cash transactions.
Perform mathematical computations.
Knowledge or ability to operate customized Utility billing software or other specific software related to various data processing procedures.
Strong phone contact handling skills and active listening.
Customer service skills along with problem solving skills.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to communicate effectively under stressful situations and conditions.
