We focus on essential systems where advances in technology are driving step improvements in cost, performance and resilience. We operate with a commitment to excellence, transparency, and long-term impact. Working at Overlay means investing to solve some of the world's biggest problems, while seeking outsized returns for investors. Position Overview: We are continuing the buildout of an investment business focused on nuclear energy, fusion, and grid modernization, grounded in probabilistic decision-making and long-term regime analysis rather than short-term forecasts. We are seeking a Director of Fusion & Firm Power to help drive investment judgment, thematic development, and capital allocation across this platform. This role sits at the intersection of nuclear technology, grid infrastructure, and investment strategy, and will work closely with both internal and external partners, including experienced fusion investors and academic collaborators. This is an investing + strategy role for someone technical enough to assess real-world feasibility, but commercially oriented enough to underwrite capital outcomes. Key Responsibilities: Develop and maintain probabilistic models and frameworks to assess nuclear and grid-related investment opportunities Evaluate fusion and advanced nuclear companies across technology readiness, policy dynamics, capital structure, and long-term deployment potential Present investment recommendations at Investment Committee Identify regime shifts and re-rating catalysts across nuclear, fusion, and grid modernization Support investment decision-making across direct company investments and “picks-and-shovels” platform opportunities Collaborate with external partners and advisors, including nuclear operators and academic experts Translate complex technical and policy developments into clear, capital-relevant insights for internal use and LP communication What We're Looking For: Experience in nuclear energy, grid infrastructure, advanced energy investing, or adjacent systems-level fields Strong comfort with probabilistic reasoning, scenario analysis, and decision-making under uncertainty Strong financial modeling skillset Ability to integrate technical, policy, and capital considerations into coherent investment judgment Intellectual curiosity and willingness to engage deeply with emerging technologies Collaborative mindset and low-ego working style What This Role Is Not: This is not a pure engineering role This is not a traditional banking This is not an academic research position What You'll Get: High-impact role within a growing alternative investment platform. Meaningful exposure across private credit, infrastructure, real assets, and growth equity strategies. Competitive compensation, including base salary and performance-based incentive. Comprehensive benefits and flexible work environment. Opportunity to help institutionalize and scale the firm’s fund accounting and operational infrastructure. Overlay is committed to championing diversity, equity, and inclusion at every level of our organization, ensuring an environment where all employees feel valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their unique insights and ideas.
