We are seeking an experienced

Fleet Director

to join our team. In this role you will be responsible for leading the strategic planning, acquisition, lifecycle management, maintenance, and regulatory compliance of the organization’s fleet and assets. You will partner with executive leadership to optimize fleet performance, control costs, enhance safety, manage vendors and technology systems, and drive operational efficiency while ensuring compliance with DOT, OSHA, and other applicable regulations.

The Role

Develop and execute the organization’s fleet and asset management strategy aligned with business goals and growth initiatives

Partner with executive leadership to drive cost control, operational efficiency, and long-term fleet planning

Oversee the full fleet and asset lifecycle, including acquisition, utilization, maintenance, and disposal

Direct fleet maintenance programs to ensure safety, reliability, regulatory compliance, and asset longevity

Implement and manage GPS, telematics, and fleet tracking systems (including SHEEL) to optimize routing, driver behavior, and asset utilization

Monitor fleet performance and analyze operational and financial data to support reporting, forecasting, and strategic recommendations

Lead fleet safety programs in collaboration with Safety, including training, inspections, risk assessments, and accident management

Ensure compliance with all applicable DOT, OSHA, environmental, and local, state, and federal regulations

Develop and manage fleet budgets, KPIs, and performance metrics, identifying cost-reduction and ROI improvement opportunities

Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives related to fuel efficiency, maintenance, procurement, and vendor management

Establish and manage strategic vendor and supplier relationships, including contract negotiation and performance oversight

Stay current on emerging fleet technologies, regulatory changes, and sustainability initiatives to drive continuous improvement

Lead, mentor, and develop the fleet operations team to drive performance, accountability, and operational excellence

Regular travel across the company’s footprint to support fleet operations, up to 50% annually

Requirements

5+ years of leadership experience in fleet management, asset management, or operations in a large, multi-site organization, preferably in the telecommunications or a similar industry required

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Asset Management, Fleet Maintenance or a related field required

Certification in Fleet Management or Transportation (e.g., NAFA, CAFM) is a plus

Proven experience in managing large fleets (over 500 vehicles), including heavy equipment and/or commercial vehicle

Knowledge of fleet management technologies, including GPS tracking, telematics, and maintenance systems

Familiarity with environmental sustainability and regulatory requirements for fleet operations

Excellent negotiation skills and experience managing supplier relationships

Financial acumen, with experience in managing budgets, forecasts, and financial reports

Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and influence direct and indirect teams

Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving skills

Capable of lifting and transporting materials up to 30 pounds when necessary?

Perform repetitive motions including typing, writing, and using computer equipment

Ability to maintain various postures including sitting for prolonged periods, standing for occasional timeframes, alternating between sitting and standing, and occasional kneeling, crouching, or bending

Sufficient visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, and fine print

Clear hearing ability to communicate via telephone and in-person conversations

Ability to maintain productivity during extended computer-based work periods

Ability to travel across the company’s footprint to support fleet operations, up to 50% annually

Must provide a valid government-issued photo ID for verification; a driver’s license is required if the role involves driving
