Job Title: Sales Manager - Instruments – India
Your Role Reporting to the Head of Instruments, you will be responsible for driving the Instruments business across India. You will collaborate closely with internal teams, external stakeholders, distributors, and key accounts to support business growth through technical and commercial excellence. Main Responsibilities
Technical Responsibilities Understand technical specifications, applications, and performance features of medical devices/instruments. Provide product demonstrations, technical presentations, and training to customers, distributors, and internal teams. Assess customer requirements and recommend suitable products/solutions. Coordinate with R&D, service, and product teams for technical clarifications or custom solutions. Support pre-sales and post-sales activities, including installation assistance and troubleshooting guidance. Commercial Responsibilities Develop and manage customer relationships across segments (Ophthalmic doctors, Optometrists, iECPs, Key accounts/chains, hospital procurement teams, lens/instruments distributors). Prepare quotations, commercial proposals, and pricing strategies. Drive sales targets through lead generation, customer visits, and follow-ups. Negotiate contracts and commercial terms while ensuring margin protection. Conduct market research and competitor analysis to identify new business opportunities. Manage end-to-end sales cycles from enquiry to order closure. Cross-Functional Responsibilities Work closely with Lens sales teams, Instruments service teams, finance, and operations. Participate in exhibitions, conferences, and industry events. Provide customer feedback for product improvements. Maintain accurate documentation, CRM updates, and sales reports. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND RELATED ACTIVITIES Market Achieve business targets for the assigned region/zone. Develop regional strategies for business growth. Identify new customer opportunities and expansion areas. Monitor competitor activity and market trends. Build and manage distributor relationships. Support distributors in business development and profitability. Ensure correct execution of sales, discount, and trading terms. Control, Training and Communication Review sales performance and reports. Train and develop distributor and internal sales teams. Ensure compliance with company policies and reporting systems. A. Ophthalmic doctors, Optometrists, Hospitals, Distributors, Key Accounts, Industry partners. B. TECHNICAL SKILLS – PORTRAIT OF A PERFECT CANDIDATE Strong understanding of medical instrumentation and healthcare workflows. Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills. Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical customers. Strong problem-solving and customer-service orientation. C. CANDIDATE PROFILE Educational Background MBA is desirable (not mandatory). Experience 7–10 years of experience in selling instruments in Ophthalmic / Medical Devices / Diagnostics / Pharma (Ophthal). Prior experience as Sales Manager/Lead in high-value instruments. Must have zonal/regional exposure D. LANGUAGES Proficient in English and local language. Multilingual is an advantage Demonstrates high energy. Goal-driven and result-oriented. Strong ability to influence and drive change. Clear and fact-based decision-making.
