Our client, an award-winning medical technology company focused on women’s health that develops life-changing medical devices for diagnostics, surgery, and medical imaging, is seeking an Intellectual Property Counsel to support the Diagnostic Solutions Division in San Diego.
This role will manage and develop a global IP portfolio, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets, and provide strategic IP advice to business and R&D teams.
Key responsibilities include patent drafting and prosecution in the biological and chemical arts; conducting patentability, freedom-to-operate, and competitive landscape analyses; supporting M&A diligence; managing IP litigation and outside counsel; and advising on IP-related agreements, marketing materials, and portfolio strategy.
This close‑knit team has terrific rapport and gets along great. (They frequently win the annual Halloween costume contest!) The two attorneys you would report to have been there 30 years and 18 years, respectively.
This position is in‑person 5 days/week in San Diego. If you are not a member of the California bar, you will need to become a RIHC. The company will pay relocation fees. Comp is $183,000 to $325,000 plus bonus, with opportunity for advancement.
Qualifications include USPTO registration with a minimum of three years of experience. Candidates must have either an advanced degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or biomedical engineering or at least two years of relevant industry/lab experience, plus the business acumen to translate technical data into understandable legal advice.
