Job Purpose

The Aquatics & Fitness Director is responsible for overseeing aquatics and fitness programs, operations, and staff by providing strategic direction to increase membership and enhance the value perception of members. The Fitness Director enjoys interacting with members and guests to bring awareness and participation into the fitness program. Under the direction of the General Manager, the Fitness Director excels at leading a team that focuses on creating a memorable guest experience in the fitness department.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, manage, schedule, direct and evaluate lifeguards and personal trainers
  • Design and implement swim/exercise programs that are appropriate for members at various fitness levels
  • Ensure swim/fitness facilities are maintained and operational in compliance with safety standards
  • Maintain the appearance and safety of the swim/fitness area by establishing and overseeing routine maintenance
  • Ensure the highest level of customer service in the fitness area by overseeing or performing operational duties including answering phones; operating register or point of sale system; completing rental agreements
  • Help generate revenue by identifying and developing promotions and special events
  • Address member complaints and resolve issues
  • Support club’s Membership Director by meeting prospects, attending events, and assisting in closing sales
  • Implement and support all American Golf initiatives and programs as requested by management
  • Other duties may be assigned by management

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of exercise science including kinesiology, functional anatomy, exercise physiology, nutrition, risk factor identification, fitness appraisal, lifestyle modification techniques, exercise prescription and injury prevention
  • Demonstrated competence as a fitness director and exercise leader with training in specific areas including weight loss, sports performance, endurance and body toning
  • Current CPR and First Aid certificate is required
  • Proven ability to safely operate all fitness equipment at location
  • Excellent communication skills, customer service orientation and a focus on customer satisfaction
  • Proven leadership skills, the ability to develop employees and foster a team environment
  • Solid time management, organization, prioritization skills and ability manage multiple tasks is required
  • Proficient in computer software including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • 4-year college degree and 5 years related successful experiences as Fitness Manager or Director at a fitness facility; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Working Conditions

  • Days and hours of work vary based on schedule and business needs.
  • Evening, weekend, and holiday shifts may be required.
  • May need to stand for extended periods.
  • Regular activities can include walking, reading, hearing, speaking, balancing, climbing, using hands and fingers, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing, pulling, smelling, or tasting.
  • May need to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision needs can include close, distance, peripheral, and color vision, along with the ability to adjust focus.
  • May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Could encounter moving mechanical parts, sharp objects, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, etc.
  • Noise levels are generally moderate.
