Overview
The Mechanical Construction Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all field operations related to mechanical construction scopes on assigned projects. This role leads mechanical crews and subcontractors, ensuring work is performed safely, on schedule, and in compliance with project specifications, codes, and quality standards. The Superintendent serves as the primary on-site leader for mechanical work, coordinating with the senior superintendent, project management, other trades, inspectors, and clients to successfully deliver projects from start through completion. In this role you may be required to travel up to 100% of the time.
Key Responsibilities Field Leadership & Supervision
Lead, supervise, and coordinate mechanical foremen, tradespeople, and subcontractors on job sites
Assign daily work activities and manpower to meet project schedules and productivity goals
Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork in the field
Project Execution
Plan, sequence, and execute mechanical work in coordination with the overall project schedule
Review mechanical drawings, specifications, and submittals to ensure accurate installation
Identify and resolve constructability and coordination issues in the field
Monitor progress and adjust manpower and resources as needed to maintain schedule
Safety & Compliance
Enforce company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and site-specific safety plans
Conduct jobsite safety meetings, inspections, and audits
Ensure all mechanical work complies with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements
Quality Control
Maintain high workmanship standards across all mechanical installations
Perform regular inspections of work in progress and completed work
Coordinate inspections and testing with authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), engineers, and commissioning teams
Coordination & Communication
Serve as the primary point of contact for mechanical field operations
Coordinate with other trades to prevent conflicts and maintain efficient workflows
Communicate labor needs, schedule updates, material requirements, and field conditions to project management
Documentation & Reporting
Track manpower, production, daily reports, and progress logs
Assist with material coordination, deliveries, staging, and inventory control
Support project close-out activities, including punch lists, system turnover, and as-built documentation
Qualifications Required
5+ years of experience in mechanical construction, including leadership or supervisory roles
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including HVAC, piping, plumbing, hydronic systems, equipment installation, and closed loop systems
Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and applicable mechanical codes
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents
Proven ability to lead crews and manage mechanical field operations effectively
Valid Driver’s License
Preferred
Journeyman-level mechanical certification or equivalent technical training
Experience as a Mechanical Superintendent on large-scale commercial, industrial, or mission-critical projects
OSHA 30 certification
Strong computer skills (Procore, Bluebeam, MS Office, or similar construction software)
