The Vice President (VP), Digital Strategy is a leader responsible for setting and guiding the strategic vision for digital marketing programs across the agency’s custom program. This individual owns the development of data-driven, insight-led digital strategies that deliver fundraising growth, audience engagement, and innovation at scale for large, nationwide nonprofit organizations.
Leading a team of senior strategists and directors, the VP ensures that digital efforts align with client goals, channel performance, and market opportunity. This role works closely with cross-functional leaders across Digital Operations, Account Management, Creative, Analytics, and Media to ensure strategy is seamlessly executed and delivers measurable value.
The VP, Digital Strategy is a key contributor to the agency’s overall growth and service evolution—bringing deep expertise in nonprofit fundraising, performance marketing, digital innovation, and omnichannel audience engagement.
Responsibilities and Expectations Strategic Leadership & Vision
Understand and lead the agency’s digital strategic planning function, ensuring alignment with client missions and campaign performance goals.
Establish best-in-class frameworks for campaign strategy development, audience planning, and channel selection.
Stay ahead of industry trends, platform changes, and emerging technologies to evolve the agency’s digital strategy offering.
Serve as the senior strategic lead on high-priority clients, developing annual digital fundraising roadmaps, audience segmentation strategies, and channel mix recommendations.
Guide the creation of strategy briefs, strategic program plans, and performance projections across platforms (email, SMS, paid media, website, SEO, etc.).
Present strategic plans, performance insights, and optimization recommendations to C-level client stakeholders.
Cross-Functional Integration
Collaborate with Digital Operations, Analytics, Media, and Creative teams to ensure execution aligns with strategic intent and drives ROI.
Partner with Account Mangement to ensure strategic continuity and effectiveness across all phases of the client relationship.
Participate in strategic planning sessions, QBRs, and new business development initiatives.
Lead, mentor, and scale a team of high-performing strategists and digital thinkers.
Establish a culture of collaboration, insight-led planning, and creative problem-solving.
Drive talent development and succession planning within the digital strategy discipline.
Leverage behavioral, transactional, and campaign performance data to inform strategic recommendations.
Champion a test-and-learn culture, bringing innovative thinking into audience targeting, creative direction, donor journeys, and conversion optimization.
Develop case studies and thought leadership that highlight strategic success and contribute to agency visibility, including webinars, blog posts, and participation in industry studies.
Other responsibilities may be assigned.
Qualifications, skills, and experience
Bachelor's degree required; master’s degree or equivalent experience in digital strategy, marketing, or nonprofit leadership preferred
10+ years of experience in digital marketing strategy, including senior leadership in an agency or nonprofit context
Extensive knowledge of digital direct response fundraising, campaign planning, audience development, and cross-channel integration
Strong experience with digital platforms including email, SMS, paid social, search, programmatic, and content/web strategy
Deep understanding of donor behavior, nonprofit verticals, and segmentation strategy
Proven record of driving digital revenue growth and strategic innovation for clients
Skilled in analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics), CRM tools, and fundraising platforms
Exceptional leadership, communication, and team-building skills
Willingness to work across verticals, including faith-based clients
LOCATION: Remote, U.S. Some travel may be required (25%).
Pay Range expected for the position: $130,000-$140,000 annually.
